2010 Aussie Millions Main Event - Day 1b

Welcome back to Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia for Day 1b of the $10,000 Aussie Millions Poker Championship Main Event.

The 'largest tournament in the Southern Hemisphere' kicked off yesterday afternoon, with 233 runners taking to the felt -- a significant increase over last year's numbers (181?). Of those, just 96 remain.

We're in for another big day today, with the likes of newly inducted Australian Poker Hall of Famer Jeffrey Lisandro, legendary cricket bowler turned poker player Shane Warne and last year's Aussie Millions Main Event Champion Stewart Scott all entering the mix this afternoon.

Like yesterday, play is scheduled to kick off at 12:30 p.m. local time and PokerNews will be onhand from the first flop to the last river card, bringing you all of the action as it happens, direct from the tournament floor.

We're under way up here in Studio 3 with six Main Event tables surrounding the $100,000 Challenge table. Quite a few notables are here besides the eight at the feature table.

We caught up on the action for this hand on the turn.

The board read {2-Spades}{6-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{3-Spades}.

Erik Seidel made it 2,500 to go and his opponent made the call.

The river brought the {7-Clubs} and Seidel fired off a bet of 6,000 which his opponent also called.

Seidel turned over {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} for a flopped set and his opponent tossed his cards in the muck.

Seidel is up to 28,000.

Some Early Notables

Our early guestimate is that there are slightly less players here today than yesterday, which may see us at around the 200-player mark. However there are still plenty of dead stacks in the field which will no doubt be filled as the day progresses.

There's a couple of interesting early tables with Australian Poker Hall of Famers Gary Benson and Jeff Lisandro seated together on the secondary feature table with Michael Pedley, while up in the far corner of the room is probably the most interesting table lineup here today as we see the likes of Antonio Casale, Jay Rosenkrantz, Van Marcus and boxing World Champion Jeff Fenech.

Lucky Seat

Jamie Glazier and Stewart Scott both ended up next to each other at one of our tables in Studio 3.

It seems seat one at their table is winning a few pots because Glazier turned to Scott and said, "That must be the lucky seat." Scott asked which one and Glazier said, "Seat 1. He's getting all the cards."

Portaro Chips Up Early

Catching the action on the on the turn on a board of {5-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Spades}{5-Hearts}, Bruno Portaro was faced with a bet of 800 from his opponent and decided to check-raise it up to 2,000. His opponent made the call and the {10-Spades} hit the river. Portaro fired out 3,200 but his opponent folded as Portaro chips up early to 23,000.

Fenech Takes a Punch

Van Marcus raised to 250 from middle position and received three callers to see a flop of {2-Clubs}{10-Spades}{4-Diamonds}.

Marcus fired a continuation bet of 600 before Antonio Casale made it 1,200 from the hijack. Jeff Fenech overcalled on the button, the small blind folded and Marcus also made the call.

The turn was the {5-Diamonds} and play checked to Casale who fired 3,000. Fenech snap-called as Marcus thought for a long time before releasing as the {K-Spades} hit the river. Both players checked the river as Fenech tabled {Q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} but it wasn't enough to beat Casale's {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}.

Casale moves up to 26,800 with Fenech down to 16,700.

"They're all crazy!"

"They're all crazy mate!" complained Jim Sachinidis to one of our field reporters, "If he doesn't raise, then he raises....I'm already on tilt mate!"

However things may have settled down for Sachinidis after winning a nice pot. Sachinidis called a bet of 600 on the turn before raising a bet of 1,500 to 4,000 on the river on the board of {2-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}. His opponent called and Sachinidis took it down with {3-Spades}{4-Spades} to get back to starting stack.
