Benson Survives, Gutch Gone

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 0 ante

Australian Poker Hall of Famer Gary Benson is still hanging in there, having just doubled up through John Haddad, but Ryan Gutch wasn't so luck and as such, we're down to 32 players in this event.

The player under the gun limped in before Benson raised to 4,500. Haddad called from the hijack, as did the UTG player to make it three-handed to a flop of {6-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}.

The UTG player checked, Benson moved all-in for 1,800 and Haddad raised to 11,800 to force the UTG player out of the way. Benson showed {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs} but found himself in a world of hurt against Haddad, who tabled {Q-Spades}{10-Spades}{10-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for middle set. The turn of the {8-Hearts} helped nobody, but Benson managed to hit the {K-Spades} on the river for Broadway and double up to 18,000!

A short time later, Gutch moved the last of his money into the middle before the flop holding {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts} but ran into the {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}{3-Spades}{2-Spades} of Mig Agassim, which improved to a set on the board of {6-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}, sending Gutch packing.
