As with Day 1f, flights 1g and 1h of Winter Poker Open Event #4: $400- $300k GTD Mystery Bounty both ended right around the eight-hour mark with players from each flight in the money and advancing to Day 2.

Leading both flights is Jason Burruss (673,000) from 1g who gained momentum mid-way through the day when he busted Christopher McCauley kept up the pressure until bagging. Close behind him is the 1f chipleader Charles Blanchard who bagged 667,000 after taking down several big pots late in the evening and in third is Terance Perez who improved his bag from yesterday with 511,000. He and David Shaw both scored the $1,000 bag bonus today as Shaw bagged up the closing flight with 415,000 to put him in fifth while James Galloway held the fourth place spot with 434,000.

By the first break of the day, It was McCauley who had all of the chips with around 100,000 after he hit quads to bust Vivek Shingala. He then built his stack up to over 150,000 by the time registration closed, but then had dwindled down to around 75,000 when he moved all in with ace-king against Burress with the rockets. Ravee Sundara and Will Leffingwell also built up a hefty stack through the day, with Leffingwell bagging 306,000 and Sundara finishing with 309,000.

A couple of players that fired today who failed to bag included David Mann, Cord Garcia, Drake Kemper, Dexter Baier, and Ray Henson. Fortunately for them, there are still plenty of chances to get to Day 2.

An even larger field is expected for the Saturday flights tomorrow, and with only around 30 more players to meet the guarantee, it's safe to say $300,000 will be greatly surpassed by the end of the last flight on Sunday. As always, PokerNews will be on deck providing coverage every step of the way until a champion is crowned on the aptly-named Champions Club live stream on Monday.

After doubling up the previous hand, Vanessa Grossman got all her chips into the middle once again and David Shaw made the call to put her at risk.

Vanessa Grossman: AK
David Shaw: 88

"Whaho! Wanna switch? " Shaw jokes to Grossman.

"Yes, your hand is much better preflop," she replied, and the board seemed to take notice as it ran out 32367 for Shaw's eights to hold and Grossman was sent to the exit.

Burruss Eliminates McCauley to Solidify Chiplead

Jason Bullock opened to 7,500, Jason Burruss just called, and then Christopher McCauley moved all in for 74,500.

Bullock promptly got out of the way but Burruss snap-called to put McCauley at risk and tabled AA.

"Wow, are you serious? Just woke up with random aces? So sick," McCauley shook his head as he tabled AK, needing to improve.

Unfortunately for him, the runout of Q10268 did him no favors and he was eliminated from Day 1g while Burruss padded his chip lead.

Ravee Sundara

On a heads-up completed board of 2J657, there was 24,000 in the middle when Laura Hoppe moved all for 33,000 and the action was then on Ravee Sundara.

After a full minute in the tank, he set out a stack of chips to make the call, which Hoppe did not like at all. She let out a deep sigh and tossed out her cards to show K10 for king-high while Sundara tabled K5 for just a pair of fives to take down the pot.

The 2024 Winter Poker Open at Champions Club Texas in Houston continues today with Day 1g and Day 1h (seventh and eighth of eleven starting flights) of Event #4: $400- $300,000 GTD Mystery Bounty!

Day 1g of the $400 buy-in event starts at high noon local time while Day 1h that will kick off at 5:00 p.m. Both of these flights will have unlimited re-entries and registration will be open until the start of Level 9 (approximately 4:30 p.m. for 1g; 9:30 p.m. for 1h).

Yesterday’s Day 1f was topped by Caesar Hinojosa who put 573,000 into a bag, which means out of the six completed starting flights, it is still Derek Normand who holds the top stack as he bagged the chip lead in Day 1e with 691,000.

Players will start with 30,000 chips, and levels will be 30 minutes in length, with a 15-minute break every four levels. Play continues in each opening flight until just 12% of the field remains, with those players in the money and advancing to Day 2, at which point the bounties will come into play.

The two-day event culminates with a live-streamed final table on Monday, February 12th once all survivors from the eleven opening flights have been thinned to nine remaining contenders. Those opening flight returnees will come back to the Champions Club poker room at noon on Monday to continue their chase for a big payday and to pull some big bounties!

Make sure to stay tuned for the next few days as PokerNews will have you covered for this event until a champion is crowned on Monday, so stay with us for all the action!
