Day 1 Started
Welcome to the inaugural event of the Epic Poker League. As its name already mentions, this event should be nothing short of epic with the best of the best coming out and plopping down the $20,000 buy-in to give it a shot.
Already spotted around the Palms are Jason Mercier, Victor Ramdin, Noah Schwartz, Vanessa Rousso, Matt Glantz, Randy Dorfman, Rep Porter, David Peters, Matt Graham, Eric Froehlich, David "Bakes" Baker, McLean Karr, Marco Johnson, Mike Sowers, Allen Bari, Matt Brady and Jason DeWitt.
The Epic Poker League kicked off earlier this week with a $1,500 Pro/Am and 190 players came out for that event. Out of those 190, the top nine received $20,000 entries into this Main Event. Those players include Sean Getzwiller, George Long, Dan Fleyshman, Micah Raskin, Jeremiah DeGreef, Clifford Waite, Brandon Meyers and the event's winner Steve O'Dwyer. Andy Bloch placed third in the event, but already had his qualification into the Epic Poker League. For winning the event, O'Dwyer received $23,810 and a $20,000 Main Event seat.
This Main Event, which is the first of four, is scheduled as a six-max event with each player starting with 50,000 in chips. The blinds will start at 100-200 and the levels will be 90-minutes long. Day 1 will last a total of six full levels and registration is allowed until after Level 5. To go along with that great structure and plenty of play allotted, there will be $400,000 in added money to the prize pool.
Play is set to kick off at 12:00 PM local time here at the Palms in Las Vegas. Be sure to stay tuned to PokerNews for all the live coverage from the event. It's going to be a great one -- scratch that, an epic one!
There is still a line of people waiting to register about a dozen players deep and it appears the start time has been pushed back slightly. We will keep you updated as to when the cards will be in the air and the very first Epic Poker League Main Event is officially under way.

We picked up the action on a board.
David Peters checked from the small blind position before Amit Makhija bet 5,100 from the cutoff. Peters called but Makhija tabled for quads and Peters mucked his hand.
On a flop, Ted Lawson check-raised a 600-chip bet from Jimmy Fricke to 2,600. Unfazed, Fricke three-bet to 7,600. Lee Markholt, who had called the original bet, got out of the way before Lawson hit the tank.
Eventually, Lawson folded his hand and fell to 47,000 while Fricke vaulted to 55,000.
On the paired board of , Nick Binger and his opponent Mike Sowers put 6,700 in each before the dealer dealt the on the river. On the end, Binger checked. Sowers fired 5,400 and Binger made the call.
Binger showed the and Sowers the . Both players had a Broadway straight using their ace and chopped up the pot.
Andy Frankenberger was visibly upset that his stack was blinded off and voiced his opinion to Tournament Director Matt Savage. Apparently, Frankenberger had specifically asked the teller if his stack would be in play while he went to the bathroom and got some food to which she responded in the negative. However, when he got to his seat, he noticed he did not have the full 50,000 for which he felt he was entitled.
Additionally, it appears that Sorel Mizzi and company are also not happy. According to them, the registration process took them over 90 minutes. They were all seated at the same table and that seems to be the larger of their issues.
