PokerStars.com EPT Budapest Begins Again

Wait! Not until 1pm!
Wait! Not until 1pm!
Welcome back to the Las Vegas Casino, Budapest for part two of the inaugural Hungarian EPT. Yesterday's field exceeded the published 250-runner cap and we have every reason to believe that today will likewise attract huge numbers -- the final count is expected to be in the region of 540 players.

Join us once again from 1pm local time to find out who will join our remaining 90 Day 1a players going into Day 2 as we bring you up-to-the-minute coverage here at Pokernews.com.

Almost Game Time!

Day 1B of the PokerStars.com EPT Hungarian Open will be starting shortly. Players are taking their seats in the tournament area. Stay tuned for live updates.

Who's Here?

I made a quick pass through the tournament area. Not everyone is seated yet and a couple of players have been trickling in a bit late. The big screen says that there are 270 players today. There are 27 tables currently in use.

So who is playing today? Johnny Lodden (Norway), Vicky Coren (UK), Alan Smurfit (Ireland), Noah Boeken (Holland), Michael Martin (US), Alexia Portal (France), William Thorson (Sweden), and Alex Kravchenko (Russia).

Stars Out In Force

Also playing today are EPT Baden champion Julian "Yo Yo" Thew and lovely EPT Live presenter Kara Scott.

One interesting table is that currently occupied by recent EPT London champ and serial EPT final tablist Michael Martin, along with French poker heavyweights Pascal Perrault and Thomas "Vigo" Fougeron.

ElkY Arrives

Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier has been racking up the frequent flier miles this year. The Frenchman recently won the main event at the Fest al Lago series at the Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas earlier this week. And instead of partying it up in Sin City and blowing his $1.4 million winnings, he flew to Budapest to play in the PokerStars.com EPT Hungarian Open. He recently took his seat at table 7 as several of his friends and colleagues stopped by to offer him congratulations on his recent victory at the Bellagio. If case you didn't know, ElkY won the PokerStars.com Caribbean Adventure this January for a cool $2 million.

Late Arrivals: Dario

"Do you like my smooth chest?"
"Do you like my smooth chest?"
Dario Minieri rushed into the tournament room at least 20 minutes late. He took his seat at table 17. He's going for the Patrik Antonius look... and left several buttons of his shirt unbuttoned. Yes, Dario is proudly exposing his bare chest.

Roch Finds Aces, Minieri Finds His Inner Rock

Very nearly three-way all-in craziness on Table Minieri, prevented only by an excellent laydown from Dario Minieri and his plunging neckline.

Preflop, Minieri reraised to 2,000, only for an opponent to move all in from seat 10, and then for Philipp Roch in seat 1 to go all in as well. After some long consideration, during which the inevitable Wall Of Media formed around the table, Minieri passed pocket kings face up. "Good fold," said Roch, "Very good fold," and flipped over {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades}. The gent in seat 10 was holding pocket queens, and the aces held up all the way down the {4-?} {8-?} {6-?} {5-?} {10-?} board to eliminate the player in seat 10 and give Roch an early double up.
