Solid Start for Devlin

On a {2-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} board and with around 2,000 in the pot, Devlin and opponent checked the turn only for Devlin to bet 1,4000 on the {6-Spades} river. After a long pause, his opponent made the call, but quickly mucked as Devlin showed {K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} for top pair.

Fry Mixes it Up

Willie Fry
Willie Fry
Willie Fry raised it up to 150 preflop and received three callers, including the blinds. After all players had checked the {3-Spades}{J-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} flop, Javed Abrahams bet 200 from the button on the {7-Spades} turn. The big blind flat-called, but Fry bumped it up to a total of 675 to play. Abrahams folded, and again, the big blind smooth-called.

A {4-Diamonds} river led to Fry to casually betting 1,850 and saying "cheap, cheap" as his opponent began to dwell. In the end, the big blind folded his hand, allowing Fry to show {4-Clubs}{2-Spades}.

Dag-ged Down

The colourful Slovak, Dag Palovic who finalled this event last year, as well as San Remo has been virtually felted early on in the competition. He called a raise on the turn of a {9-Spades} {Q-Spades} {Q-Hearts} {2-Spades} {10-Hearts} and then another 3,500 on the river, only to scream an expletive when his opponent flipped {K-Spades} {7-Spades} for the flush. Palovic is down to just 1,025 in chips.

By The Hammer Of Thor-son

Swedish Team Pokerstars member, William Thorson has had very good start to today's proceedings. He was gifted chips according to tablemate Rob Sherwood who explained how Thorson had raised in early position with {Q-?} {6-?} and check-raised a {Q-?} {9-?} {6-?} flop before getting it all in on the {6-?} turn against {Q-?} {J-?}. As a result, Thorson is already on 20,000.

Opponent Suffers Akenhead...

James Akenhead has managed to double up to around 17,000 after a nice cooler against another player on his table. On the {6-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} {7-Clubs} board, Akenhead bet 1,000 and was check-raised to 2,500, after a brief dwell the rest of the Brit's chips went into the middle and he was called equally quickly by his opponent's {9-Clubs} {5-Clubs}. But Akenhead was holding {10-Hearts} {9-Hearts} for the nuts with a redraw which was good after the {9-Diamonds} river.

Dydek Refuses to Die

The Czech Republic aren't known for supplying the poker world with too much ammo, but they're provided a fair amount of players on their home turf here in Prague. One of those is Lukas Dydek, who just found himself all in for his remaining 5,500 with {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} versus {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}.

The {9-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{9-Spades} flop did nothing except encourage Thierry van den berg to say, "Hey, I folded nine-deuce", and the {2-Diamonds} turn made little difference either, but a {10-Hearts} on the river was earth-shattering and enabled Dydek to survive by the very skin of his teeth. He now has circa 12,000 and a smile as wide as the Polish border.

Akenhead Stragithened Out

Holding {J-?}{10-?} on a {9-Clubs}{7-Spades}{A-Hearts} flop, it checked around to the {8-Hearts} turn where James Akenhead flat-called a big over bet from a player two seats to his left. On the {A-Spades} river, the aggressor checked allowing Akenhead to make a value bet of 1,350, which was surprisingly check-raised to a total of 4,700. Although not happy about it, Akenhead made the call, but was swiftly showed {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for the rivered boat to see the Hit Squadder drop back down to his starting stack.
