Barer of Great Responsibility

Ami Barer - Back from leading to average stack
Ami Barer - Back from leading to average stack
Two big stacks collided - those of Ami Barer and Sami Kelopuro - in the last seconds of the level just ended. On the river, a crowd gathered, partly because Kelopuro bet 55k, and partly because most of the other tables had gone on break already and there wasn't that much to watch.

The board was {2-Spades} {8-Spades} {9-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {J-Clubs} . Barer thought for a while and made the call, but mucked quickly when he saw Kelopuro's {10-Spades} {J-Diamonds} .

Greco Not Happy at All

Greco -  :(
Greco - :(
We're not exactly sure how the action went, but one Jean Claude Perrot was all in on the big blind by the time we got there, a lot of chips were in front of Michael Greco in the hijack, and the cutoff had moved all in too. Action was back on Greco. Eventually he folded {A-Hearts} {K-Hearts} face up, and was absolutely horrified when the other two turned over their cards.

Cutoff: {A-Clubs} {J-Hearts}
Perrot (not Negreanu, as he claimed): {A-Spades} {8-Hearts}

Board: {Q-Clubs} {10-Spades} {J-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {10-Diamonds}

"Yay!" cried Perrot as he tripled up. Meanwhile the cutoff made a fine profit on the side pot, and Greco fumed.

Polito Little Too Late

Laurent Polito has just been eliminated. Over a mid-position raise (21k) from Riku Vihreasaari, Polito shoved for 46,100 on the button. It would have been an easier decision for Vihreasaari, if the under the gun player hadn't also then gone all in for 100k+. He thought for a while and then mucked with frustration, but found Polito with {A-Hearts} {K-Spades} and the utg player (newly moved, not yet identified) with {Q-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} .

The {Q-Clubs} was the first card visible on the flop. "Oh la la la la la," commented Polito, sadly shaking his head as the rest bricked out.

Funston to Phillips: "Nice to have all those chips."

So said Lance Funston after Carter Phillips took down a pretty big pot which took honestly about 12 minutes from start to finish. This was mainly down to the participation of a short stacked Jani Sointula, who together with the others saw a flop of {K-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {9-Clubs} . Sointula slowly checked, Phillips bet 7,600, called by both Funston and Sointula (slowly).

The turn {3-Spades} was checked around, but not the {J-Diamonds} river. Phillips bet 19k when Sointula checked a third time. In-position Funston made the call, but the silky-haired Finn passed (leaving himself under 40k).

Phillips flipped {J-Spades} {J-Hearts} which had leaped ahead of Funston's {K-Clubs} {10-Hearts} on the river.

"What a suckout!" exclaimed Funston, although there have been a lot more wince-worthy ones in the vicinity today. "It's nice to have all those chips," he added, eyeing up Phillips' 220k stack.

Dag Palovic:

"If you are lucky, you have to give a little bit of your luck to other persons. It is the rule of life."

Lacay-Luster

Ludovic Lacay has taken a smallish hit, raising under the gun and getting called by both blinds. It checked to him on the {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} flop and he bet 6,000 but got called by the small blind. Both players checked the {9-Clubs} turn and the small blind bet out 7,500 on the {K-Spades} river. Lacay resignedly tossed in the call, but mucked with a sigh when the small blind showed {A-Spades} {8-Diamonds}.
