Perhaps the Phase of the Moon Matters Too

Barer of ill questions
Barer of ill questions
Ami Barer was the Day 1b overnight chip leader, but things haven't gone as smoothly for him on Day 2. He tried opening a recent pot to 5,500 from the cutoff. Small blind Michael Tureniec asked Barer how much he had (about 90,000 total), then squeezed his own cards. What he saw induced a raise to 17,200.

Big blind Ted Lawson, who has seemed to be short all day and still has only about 40,000, seemed a bit pained about what to do. He folded after thirty seconds.

"How much do you have?" Barer asked Lawson.

"What difference does it make?" an irritated Lawson replied.

Barer turned to the dealer, "Am I not allowed to ask him that?"

"What difference does it make?" Lawson repeated. "I'm not in the hand!"

"It actually does make a difference," Barer told him.

"It does?" Lawson asked bitterly. "Then here." He lifted his hands and pushed his big chips forward so that Barer could eyeball his stack. Satisfied with what he saw, Barer folded.
