How They Are Stacking Up

Michael Naletov continues to enjoy his 100,000-plus chip stack. And Alem Shah continues to chase him with nearly 80,000.

Meanwhile, Arnaud Mattern and Raoul Refos both are nearing 60,000. Artem Litvinov did decide to get that massage. And it appears to have had good effect, as he now has close to 50,000 chips.

Wendy Mokowsky -- the only woman among our starting group of 129 today -- has spent most the day just above or below the starting stack of 30,000. She has 28,500 at the moment.

And Alex Kravchenko and Miami John Cernuto have both been active throughout the day, but each presently sits below 25,000.

There are 115 players remaining.

Dominant Demidenko

Mihaylo Demidenko

Mihaylo Demidenko opened with a raise to 1,525 from middle position, Mikhail Mazunin called, then Oleksandr Ziv reraised to 6,000 from the cutoff. It folded back around to Demidenko who called, as did Mazunin.

The flop came {9-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}. It checked to Ziv who bet 10,000, then Demidenko check-raised to 20,000. Mazunin got out, and Ziv quickly called.

The turn brought the {K-Diamonds}, and both players quickly checked. The river was the {A-Clubs}. Demidenko paused a bit then checked, and an exhaling Ziv checked as well.

Ziv showed {9-Spades}{9-Clubs} for a set, but Demidenko turned over {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts} for a better one. Demidenko moves up over 150,000 with that one, while Ziv still has a big stack of 125,000. Mazunin, meanwhile, is sitting with 25,500.

Green With Envy

After a pre-flop raising war, all of Denis Noykin's ~28,000 chips went into the middle, and Brian Green came right along with the covering stack. He turned over {K-Clubs} {K-Spades}, but he would soon find out that he was in bad shape as Noykin tabled {A-Hearts} {A-Spades}.

Noykin would nearly fall out of his chair when the dealer revealed the {K-Diamonds} right in the door. Not to worry though, Mr. Noykin. The rest of the flop showed up {A-Clubs} and {7-Diamonds} to give both men their sets. With Green drawing to only the case king, the turn and river brought the useless {7-Clubs} and {8-Clubs} respectively. With his triple aces, Noykin had notched himself a double up to 57,000.

"What can you do?" mumbled Green. "I'm not gonna fold." He's left with about 16,000 to try and mount a little comeback.

Trust No One, Thinks Mulder

Menno Mulder
Menno Mulder
Following a flop of {3-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs}, Karpus Dmitrovich checked from the small blind, and a short-stacked Menno Mulder bet 3,000 from the cutoff. Dmitrovich then quickly announced he was all in. Mulder had just a little over 10,000 behind, and so went into the tank. He eyed Dmitrovich momentarily, then finally decided to make the call.

Dmitrovich showed {Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs} for a couple of overcards, and Mulder {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}. The turn brought the {10-Clubs}, giving Mulder a set but Dmitrovich a flush draw. The river was the {9-Hearts}, and Mulder survived.

Mulder now has about 28,000. Dmitrovich slipped to 75,000 on that one, then subsequently lost a few more and now sits with 58,000.

Six More Hands

The clock has ticked down to the final ten minutes, and it's now on pause. A card was drawn, and we'll play six more hands before bagging and tagging for the overnight soak.

Mattern Slips

Arnaud Mattern

We just caught the tail end of a heads-up pot involving Arnaud Mattern. On the turn, the board showed {J-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {9-Hearts}, and the first player checked. Mattern stacked out 3,375 chips and slid them into the middle. His opponent thought it over long and hard before putting in the call.

The river was the action killer, the {10-Clubs}. Both players checked, and the first player flashed the {K-Diamonds}. Mattern wanted to see both cards though, and he saw his opponent show up {K-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds}. After a long disgusted shake of the head, Mattern flung his cards into the muck, dropping down to about 51,000.
