Monfils Finds a Double

A player in middle position made it 2,700 to go preflop. The button raised it up to 7,000 and Gael Monfils, from the small blind, shoved all in for around 14,500. The middle position player folded and the player on the button made the call flipping over {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}. Monfils showed {k-Spades}{q-Clubs} and we were off to the flop.

The flop brought {2-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} leaving the player on the button still ahead of the newly appointed PokerStars SportStar.

The {6-Diamonds} on the turn was no help, but it was the {q-Hearts} that hit the river that gave Monfils a new lease on his tournament life.

Gael Monfils from under the gun made it 3,000 to go. The player to his left made the call before a player in middle position bumped it up to 8,000.

Everyone got out of the way and it was back around to Monfils who moved all in. The player to his left mucked and the middle position player made the call.

Monfils: {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}
MP: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}

The flop was no good to Monfils, bringing {6-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{a-Hearts}. The turn and river were also useless with the {9-Hearts} and {k-Hearts} falling respectively. And with that, the tennis star's first tournament was over.

Veldhuis Cold 5-Bet Shoves

Nick Schulman raised to 2,800 and Harry Touil flat-called. Hayden Fortini made it 9,500 next to him before, Philip Wiszowaty came in with a cold 4-bet to 23,200 but then Lex Veldhuis pushed for 46,100 total.

Everyone folded back to Wiszowaty who sighed and called showing {Q-Spades} {Q-Hearts} and then laughed when Veldhuis also showed {Q-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds}.

No flush on the board and they split the pot.

Why All The Eight?

George Danzer has just been eliminated, he was all-in for about 30,000 with {J-?} {J-?} against {8-?} {8-?} but the latter flopped quads and Danzer rivered a {J-?} to add insult to injury.

That's the second player to go out to flopped quad eights in this hour, extraordinary.
