Andrulis Drowned

Kristijonas Andrulis
Kristijonas Andrulis

We believe that Alex Kravchenko had opened to 500 and Lex Veldhuis to his immediate left had called; either way, Kristijonas Andrulis went all in for around 8,000, Kravchenko reraised to 16,000, and following a swift fold from Veldhuis the cards were on their backs.

Kravchenko: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Andrulis: did not look very happy as he turned over {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

Board: {2-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{k-Spades}{j-Clubs}{4-Spades}

Andrulis, the young Lithuanian aviator sunglasses enthusiast who took down two side events at EPT Tallinn and won one side event and came second in another at EPT Vilamoura, will not be going any further in this Main Event. Still, with a side event record like that, who needs the Main?

Kravchenko is on an above-average 40,000.

Castellucio Stays Busy

Every time we worm over to the far corner in which lurks Jan Skampa's table, Sergio Castellucio is doing something. That's not always winning - his 23k stack will confirm that - but such details don't seem to put him off any. Just now he raised in early position, getting three callers to a {3-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{5-Spades} flop. He bet out 1,200 called only by Konstantinos Nanos. On the {9-Diamonds} turn he bet 2,600 when it was checked to him again, and this time the action slowed as if he'd fired the bet at Nanos in bullet time. Nanos gripped his cards in the 'no win fold edge' style, but couldn't make up his mind. Finally he let it go.

ReVitalijis With Two Pair

Vitalijis Zavorotnijs value bet his hand to the tune of 3,000 on the river with a board of {8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades} staring up at him and his {A-Spades}{8-Spades}. His opponent Paul Knebel thought briefly but paid him off, mucking when he saw the Aces-up. An expressionless Zavorotnijs stacked the extra chips, which make his stack over 35k in total.

Lights, Cameras, Action!

With blinds now at 150/300 Markus Golser opened this hand with a raise of 800 from early position. Bruce Atkinson, who has been having a very successful 2010, called from the cut off. Konstantin Bucherl called from the button and so did Arnaud Mattern from the small blind.

The flop was {k-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} and Mattern checked before Golser put out a bet of 2,200. Atkinson called immediately and then a light went on inside the head of Bucherl who went into the tank. After a while and a few mutterings of numbers under his breath he plonked a pile of his chips onto the felt in front of him which only left three solitary yellow chips in front of him and one green chip on his cards - 15,025 in total. The Dealer spread the bet out for the table to see and it equated to 26,500. This lead to a stampede of cameras and Mattern and Golser folded before Atkinson made the call.

The turn was {8-Spades} and Atkinson rapped his knuckles on the felt to indicate a check. Almost in sync Bucherl did the same. The river was a {q-Diamonds} and again Atkinson pressed his knuckles to the felt.

"I missed." Said Bucherl as he turned over his {6-Hearts} {7-Hearts}. Atkinson turned over {10-Diamonds} {10-Spades} an action that drew several gasps from around the table. Bucherl now joins Mattern as the two short stacks on table 20.

River Quossing

A tidy pot for Fabian Quoss just now courtesy (in all likelihood) of a confidence-boosting river which gave him a full house. The board had run out with a couple of Jacks on it: {5-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{J-Spades} and with the {9-Clubs} on the river he got a raise in (6,200) vs. Ruben Robinson who led out and then made the call. When Quoss showed his {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades} he got a hint of an eyeroll and a decent addition to his stack.

Slam Dunk!

From court star to poker star Michael Skender has just eliminated someone and this is how it went down. The eliminated player limped from the hijack position and Skender made it 2,200 from the cut-off. Everyone folded around to the player in the hijack who made the call. The flop was {10-Diamonds} {q-Clubs} {9-Hearts} and the action was checked to the turn. The turn was the {q-Diamonds} and the player in the hijack checked. Skender made it 2,500 and his opponent min check-raised him to 5,000. This left him with about 10,000 behind.

Skender made the call and the river was the {7-Clubs}. Once again his opponent bet, this time making it 7,000 leaving some short change behind. Skender picked up a pile of yellow chips and slam dunked them onto the table to put his opponents tournament on the line - he made the call and showed the giant German {a-Spades} {q-Spades} for trips but the German showed him {6-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} for the straight and sent his opponent packing.

Js for J.S.

Jan Skampa, good day so far.
Jan Skampa, good day so far.

As if being chip leader for over two hours isn't enough, Jan Skampa has just taken down another pot right before the break, with quad Jacks, no less. He check-called while Sergio Castellucio led away as the board came down {J-}{7-}{J-}-rag and the river brought Jack number three. Now Skampa got paid by a Seven and went on break with an even
