Ever Used a Biro to Make a Roux? They Don't Work Well Together Do They?

Daniel Biro
Daniel Biro

Daniel Biro is amassing a huge stack over at table 7 where he is sat in seat 7. Sitting in seat 1 is 2009 EPT Prague final table occupier Anthony Roux and they both clashed in a very interesting hand.

Biro had made a raise from middle position to 5,000 and Roux called from the button. The flop was a hearty one {7-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {a-Hearts} and both players checked. The turn was {6-Spades} and Biro bet 8,500 and Roux called from the button. The river was the {8-Clubs} and Biro bet 14,000 and again Roux made the call.

Biro: {k-Clubs} {9-Clubs}

Roux: {a-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds}

Biro taking down the pot with the rivered gutter.

Biro now has ~342,500 and Roux has ~121,000

Negreanu as Good as His Word

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

We found Daniel Negreanu checking the river of a {q-Clubs}{2-Spades}{6-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{7-Clubs} board to Ville Mattila on the button, who bet 38,000. Negreanu tanked up for a while, wittering various things, of which the only bit we managed to catch was, "I don't think I'm folding." And indeed, he made the call - and was rewarded by an instant muck from Mattila. Negreanu showed {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and the pot was his.

Negreanu: 200,000
Mattila: 70000

Jeff Williams: Slightly More Chips

Jeff Williams keeps the pressure on this level, coming out on the right side of quite a few showdowns and becoming a threat to the top stacks. Having his stack absorbed into the Williams towers was Adam Wilks, who found himself in a tough spot facing a call all-in for his tournament life with a draw - he'd bet out 11k on a {J-Clubs}{8-Spades}{6-Clubs}{A-Hearts} board and Williams had set him in (for 32k more). He dove into the tank for a minute or so, before abruptly deciding to take the plunge with {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}. Williams held {A-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and there was little breath-holding time as the river was quickly dealt ({5-Diamonds}) which put an end to Wilks' run.

Jeff Williams: Slightly More Heart

Three players to a {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{6-Spades} flop, and who was to know this would end up being a multiple 100k pot? A sedate lead of 5k from Adam Jerney resulted in a raise to 20k from Erik Friberg and a stack-peer followed by a flat call from Jeff Williams in position too.

The turn was the {2-Hearts} and Jerney checked, Friberg bet 40k and again after a little thinking time Williams called, while Jerney threw his hand away. On the {J-Spades} river Friberg stopped betting, opting instead to check and (reluctantly) call Williams' 70k bet.

"I have a funny feeling you have me... but I can't lay this down," he admitted, turning up {K-Hearts}{6-Hearts}. Williams showed {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for the turned nut flush and took the pot, although he didn't seem totally delighted, as if he could have maybe stacked Friberg there. Friberg, however, disagreed: "I don't think you realise how close I was to folding there," he admonished his plump-stacked opponent.

Pettersson Drunk on Smirnov

Thomas Pettersson raised and then called all in to the push from Mikahil Smirnov in the big blind. That classic coinflip:

Pettersson: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Smirnov: {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

Pettersson didn't look particularly happy about it, but cheered up a little when the door card came the {k-Spades} - and he was over the moon when the board ran out {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{k-Spades}{7-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} for flopped quads. He doubled up to 130,000. The only person at the table who did not find this amusing was Smirnov - like the vodka, his stack has been distilled and triple-filtered for purity, and he is left with less than 20,000.

Hruby 6-Bet Bluffed for the Fans

When we arrived at the table, there was a bet of 27,500 in front of Jose Severino - a little large for an opening bet at the 1,000/2,000 level, so we are assuming that he had made the opening raise from early position before Martin Hruby reraised from the button, and the 27,500 constituted a four-bet.

So back to Hruby on the button, who now five-bet to 78,600.

And then back to Severino, who six-bet to 122,500.

"Please chip count," said Hruby to the dealer in broken English, indicating Severino's stack. The dealer duly obliged, and told Hruby that Severino had 114,000 behind. Then commenced a long, long period of tankage from Hruby, and eventually he folded. Severino showed him a lowly {a-Clubs}{3-Clubs}. "For the crowd," said passing EPT Vilamoura champion Toby Lewis, "For the fans."

Hruby: out of the top spot with 250,000
Severino: our new chip leader on 320,000

[EDIT - Hruby seems to have recovered since this hand, and is back up to 325,000.]

Green Falls Down a Manole

He is all Heart
He is all Heart

EPT Vienna has ended for the lively chatterbox that is Brian Green. Green raised from the hijack and made it 5,000 to play. The person sitting in the Small Blind was Manole Mihai. Mihai made the final table at EPT Barcelona in 2009 and so far 2010 has been a very good year for him with over $500,00 in prize money heading into the coffers of the young Romanian. Safe to say he knows what he is doing and he made the call.

The flop was a flurry of hearts {9-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {5-Hearts} and both players checked. The turn was {2-Hearts} and Green let out an audible sigh. Mihai bet 10,000 and Green announced to the table that he was all-in. Mihai made the call and Green was drawing dead as Mihai showed Green {a-Hearts} {q-Clubs} for the nut flush. Green was very unlucky as he flopped the flush with {k-Hearts} {q-Hearts}.

Mihai now has ~242,600

Kamaras in Overdrive; Gryko Stalled

Richard Gryko, busto
Richard Gryko, busto

Peter Kamaras is up over 180k after eliminating Karonis Dimitrios, who himself was no short-stack but found a big hand vs. a bigger one in a classic display of bad timing. Dimitrios raised preflop to 5k, was flat called by his neighbour and then raised (to 15,700) by button Kamaras. Back to him, and he paused for a short while before committing his entire stack. Middle Caller Guy got out of the way but Kamaras gave the very snappiest of the snap calls turning up {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts} vs. Dimitrios' {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}. The board ran out all rainbow rags sending another player to the rail.

Meanwhile across the other side of the room Richard Gryko must have gone to war preflop with Csaba Solyom, as his stack was now at risk with {J-Spades}{10-Spades} vs. {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}. The board was another collection of cards bearing no relation to either hand (although a turned flush draw gave Solyom a mini-sweat) and that's another man down.
