Crash of Tsymbals

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 400 ante

JP Kelly opened to 10,000 from middle position and Thorsten Schaefer flat-called on the button before Igor Tsymbal moved all-in from the small blind for around 46,000.

Kelly flat-called and Schaefer tanked before folding.

Kelly: {K-Hearts} {8-Clubs}
Tsymbal: {K-Hearts} {J-Clubs}

The flop improved Tsymbal a little coming {A-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} {5-Hearts} but the {8-Diamonds} on the turn left the Russian now needing a jack or ten to survive but the river was the {K-Spades}. Kelly made kings up to boost his stack close to the 500,000 mark.

Weekes Doubles, Becomes Fortnight

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 400 ante

Jonathan Weekes has avoided actual bubble elimination with the help of a pair of queens, which hit a set for good measure. Still fairly short, Weekes nevertheless looks as focused as he has been all week and is definitely more comfortably stacked than his benefactor in that double-up hand, Igor Tsymbal. Tsymbal is down to just over 20k and talking to a railer with a frown of concern.

Kassin Goodbye

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 400 ante

Charles Kassin exits just prior to the money. Severely short stacked, he was in no dread of bubbling, picking up {A-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} which was enough to shove with. He was looked up by {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} and with the board running out {3-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{A-Spades}{Q-Clubs} he made a hasty exit.

Table Break

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 400 ante

Already one table has been broken and the players scattered around the room (now filled with eight-handed tables). The bubble is just four players' exits away - even this crowd of seasoned preflop four-bettors does not seem that keen to bust out of EPT Copenhagen on Day 3 having made it through two tough days.

There have been quite a few sizeable pots taken down without even a sniff of a flop. Daniel Johansson three-bet on the button (25k) for example, winning him an extra 10k, and Johnny Jensen (chip leader for much of yesterday) has added a further 20k to his stack with preflop aggression.

Elsewhere an actual board fell between Arne Langset and Lars Krogh - {5-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}. Krogh bet out 10,500 on the flop, and Langset called. On the {2-Hearts} turn Krogh check-folded to a 15k bet from his opponent, and was shown the mighty {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}.

"I'm glad the turn wasn't an ace..." he said.

Brito Loses Flip

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 400 ante

Current Player of the Year leader Fernando Brito is out. He opened to 12,000 from a 60,000 stack before Michael Tureniec made it 28,600 from the button. Brito tanked before calling and then immediately pushing the other half of the stack in on a {K-Clubs} {J-Spades} {10-Spades} flop.

Tureniec shrugged and called with {9-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} only to find Brito had outflopped him with {A-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} but after the {6-Diamonds} turn the river was the {9-Hearts} and it was more chips for the Swede who now has almost 700,000.

Day 3 Dawns

Michael Tureniec
Michael Tureniec

Good morning and welcome back to the Radisson Blu Scandinavia, where 73 happy people are about to turn into only 64 happy ones and nine heartbroken wrecks.

After six levels of high-speed carnage yesterday, our field was decimated from 262 to 73. Only 64 places pay out here in Copenhagen, meaning that although the majority of our field will now be getting a little something for their trouble, nine unfortunates will still be going home empty-handed.

Chip leader as we head for the bubble is Michael Tureniec. The 2008 EPT London runner up finished up on 640,000; fellow Swede Per Linde was the only other man over half a million, with 514,000. In fact it was a great day for Sweden - of the top five names in the chip counts, four of them are Swedish (the other being Team PokerStars pro JP Kelly).

Also still in are EPT Barcelona winner Kent Lundmark, Team PokerStars Pros Florian Langmann and Johnny Lodden, EPT Player of the Year frontrunner Fernando Brito, high-stakes Finn Juha Helppi and Johan "busto_soon" van Til.

Players are still no doubt enjoying the late breakfast buffet (pastries and eggs available 'til 1pm!) but play is due to resume in a scant half hour, at noon local time. Don't go anywhere.
