Welcome to EPT Snowfest!

Saalbach-Hinterglemm
Saalbach-Hinterglemm

Welcome to Snowfest! Some people might be disappointed to know that this is a poker event and not a convention celebrating the life and times of the 90's rapper known for his popular wit, beat-combos and song 'Informer'.

However, that is not why we are here, snowboarding, skiing and most importantly, poker is the reason for our stay here at the Alpine Palace at Saalbach/Hinterglemm near Salzburg, Vienna. Last year, Dane Allan Baekke triumphed over a field of 546 to win the €445,000 first place prize beating PokerStars qualifier Russell Carson heads-up and we're expecting a similar-sized field once more.

Unlike all other EPT's, the event will start at 14.00 CET instead of midday, so anyone fancying a morning of going down the slopes is going to have more than enough time to do that and still have time to get their stack in on level one.

We'll be here all week to bring you all the details and fun from Snowfest and remember to check out all the videos from our brand new hostess, Laura Cornelius!

Some Familiar Faces

As Homer so rightly put, the cards are indeed in the air and most of the players are now in their seats, riffling chips and feeling each other out. As is usually the case on the European Poker Tour there are some familiar faces in the crowd including:

Adeniya Gets Caught

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante
Martins Adeniya - No relation to Styx from Steel Panther
Martins Adeniya - No relation to Styx from Steel Panther

Martins Adeniya has suffered an early setback after some serious non-stop barreling of a {10-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {9-Clubs} {J-Clubs}.

The small blind check-called bets of 150 and 400 on the flop and turn before leading out for 500 on the river, Adeniya responded to the lead by quickly raising to 1,600 but his opponent called equally fast.

Adeniya was forced to show {8-Diamonds} {6-Spades} for a missed gutshot and his opponent took the pot down with an unspectacular looking {J-Hearts} {2-Spades}

Duthie Scoops Large Pot

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

The creator of the European Poker Tour, John Duthie has just won himself a sizeable pot after applying the maximum pressure on his opponent with an all in bet.

On a board reading {3-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{7-Clubs} Aleksey Tkachenko in the small blind checked and after a minute of deliberation Duthie, seated in the big blind, decided he wanted the 31,000 chips already in the pot and that the best way to get them would be to move all in for the 21,250 he had in front of him.

His decision turned out to be correct as his opponent folded, boosting Duthie's stack to 52,250, putting him atop of the chip counts early on in this tournament

O'Shea Guevara - Poker Revolutionary

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante
John O'Shea
John O'Shea

John O'Shea was heads-up on a fairly nondescript board of {8-Spades} {2-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} and raised a flop bet of 500 to 1,600 getting a quick call.

His opponent unusually then led out for 2,200 on the {3-Spades} turn and O'Shea did not slow down, raising again this time to 5,075. However, his rival became more obstinate this time and 3-bet to 12,200.

O'Shea thought for about a minute before making it 27,075 with just a solitary 100 chip behind. A loud sigh came from the other player who sat back in his chair, shaking his head eventually releasing his hand.

The Irishman is up to 40,000 without even a showdown.

Caught With His Pantaleo's Down

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante
Giuseppe Pantaleo
Giuseppe Pantaleo

Giuseppe Pantaleo has just been caught with his hand in the proverbial cookie jar after relinquishing his hand on the river.

Joining the action on a {a-Hearts}{9-Spades}{2-Spades}{7-Spades} board, Pantaleo fired a 650 bet from the big blind, a bet that was quickly called by the cutoff. The {7-Hearts} on the river paired the board but this did not deter Pantaleo who made a bet of 1,125 chips. As quickly as he had called on the turn, the cutoff raised to 4,500 and after a double check of his cards the EPT Barcelon final tablist mucked his hand and gave a wry smile.
