The board read when we got there, almost 20,000 in the pot. A player whose name we unable to ascertain owing to the medieval table arrangement in here bet out 15,000 to cover Lucien Cohen, who only had a shade over 5,000 left to his name. Cohen deliberated silently for a few moments, before standing up, pushing his stack across the line, and commencing shouting.
Cohen: for a flush draw
Gentleman opponent:
River:
"LE PHOENIX!" cried Mr. Cohen. "LE PHOENIX!!!" flagrantly disobeying the English-only rule and prompting some of the other players at the table to exchange a few looks. Anyway, the EPT Deauville champ eventually sat back down (although it took another couple minutes for the shouting to cease) and is now at 30,000.
Ben Roberts has nearly doubled through to over 45,000 and taken out Liutauras Armanavicius at the same time. There was no way, really, that the chips weren't going in as both of them had below the starting stack of 30,000 and one had and t'other had . It was Roberts who had the boots and they held up over a board.
"Unlucky," said Roberts who sounded as genuine as I've ever heard a player sound when sympathising with a busto opponent.
No, the fallen players from the EPT Berlin Main Event have not been allowed to buy back in to the tournament in level 7, but a whole host of players have re-packed the second floor in a last minute bid to satellite in to tomorrow's flight. They won't be getting much sleep if they win a seat; the room is heaving and the waitresses can barely navigate between the tables.
Only two of these tables are now still part of the Main Event. Still remaining at them are these players, along with Vegard Vestvik who has a healthy 96,000 himself.
