Liv Gets Some Back

Liv Boeree
Liv Boeree

Team PokerStars Pro Liv Beoree was one of the three remaining players going into the {J-Hearts} {6-Spades} {9-Hearts} flop. All three checked and the dealer burned and turned {5-Hearts} on the turn.

Boeree fired 1,000 and Uladzimir Zakharau from Belarus made the call while Ugnius Simelionis from Lithuania on his immediate left mucked.

Liv led for 5,350 on the {2-Diamonds} river and Zakharau folded.

Interesting EPT Barcelona Facts

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
  • It’s been on the EPT schedule since Season 1, and in fact was the first ever event.
  • No Spaniard has ever won the title. The closest to do so was Dragan Kostic and Jesus Cortes Lizano, who both finished as runner-up in Season 8 and Season 7 respectively.
  • No player has ever made the final table twice.
  • Many Americans have made the final table over the years including Phil Ivey (2nd in Season 3), Jason Mercier (6th in Season 5) and Adam Junglen (6th in Season 4), but Carter Phillips was the only American to win the event, doing so in Season 6 after conquering a field of 479 players for €850,000.
  • There have been two winners from Sweden (Season 1 & 7) and two from Germany (Seasons 5 & 8); while the other winners have hailed from France (Season 2), Norway (Season 3), Denmark (Season 4) and United States (Season 6).

Thanks to our colleague, Chad Hollaway, for these facts.

A Catch-Up With Liv

Liv Boeree
Liv Boeree

We spoke with Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree in the break and she was delighted to be on 21,000, considering.

She told us that she flopped three sets but only won one of the pots. The other two times an opponent wither flopped a bigger set or made a larger full house. She was very happy to have lost the minimum.

Too Much for Benny

Just before the break the 2011 EPT London Main Event winner Benny Spindler got involved into some preflop high-stakes action.

Paul Scott Williams raised to 1,250 in the small blind and the action folded back to Spindler in the early position. Benny re-raised to 3,000, but that wasn't enough for Williams who five-bet to 6,725. Benny thought about it for a while and decided not to go any further and folded.

Ben Never Scared of this Flop

Ben Wilinofsky flopped the nuts in hand versus Masa Kagawa, but it was the turn that helped the Canadian double up as it made his opponent two pair.

The board read {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} and Kagawa check-raised Wilinofsky's 1,600 bet up to 6,500. Call. The river fell {5-Diamonds} and Kagawa set Wilinofsky in for his last 3,500 with {q-Clubs}{8-Clubs}. Wilinofsky snapped his hand off with {k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} for Broadway.

Schlumming It

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Mattias De Meulder fired out a bet of 1,650 against Philip Schlums on a flop of {10-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{3-Spades}, the latter flat-called to see the {9-Spades} on the turn. The Team PokerStars Pro continued the aggression with a bet of 3,425 but again Schlums made the call to a fourth spade, the {4-Spades} on the river.

De Meulder fired 5,200 this time and Schlums made a small raise to 11,250 - the Belgian rechecked his cards but didn't take that long to send them into the muck.
