Shorring Up the Foundations

Maybe he's running good, or maybe he's just asserting himself early at his starting table. Whatever the reason, Shannon Shorr has come our of the blocks aggressively.

Jacob Toole opened to 6,000 off a very short stack. Shorr was in the big blind and shoved on him. Fold.

The very next hand Aubin Cazals raised to 7,000 off the button but he too had to fold when Shorr three-bet to 17,000 from the small blind.

Moral of the story: Only raise if Shannon has folded already!

Narboni No More

Philippe Narboni has fallen just short of the money here in the EPT Prague Main Event, falling victim to his fellow countryman Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier.

It was Elky, a Team PokerStars Pro, who opened the betting from late position, a raise that was three-bet by Ronny Schumpf in the cutoff. Next to act was Narboni and he moved all in for around 45,000, ElkY reshoved and Schumpf folded.

ElkY: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}
Narboni: {J-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}

ElkY was way in front, and that is exactly how it stayed as the board ran out {7-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{4-Spades}.

Hajiyev Collects Shechter's Chips

We're not sure of the action, but we do know that Ofer Shechter was all in preflop for his tournament life holding {8-Spades}{8-Hearts} and was in bad shape against the {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} of Azerbaijan's Ramin Hajiyev.

Shechter seemed resigned to his fate and began to stand even before the flop came down {7-Clubs}{9-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}. The {7-Diamonds} turn meant Shechter needed an eight on the river to stay alive, but it was not meant to be as the {A-Diamonds} peeled off.

52 Through To Day 2 of the €2K

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

A total of 52 players have made it through to Day 2 of Event #11, the €2k event from a total of 306 entries. The massive field means a prize pool totalling nearly €600,000. The current chip leader is Simon Ravnsbaek from Denmark with 282,500. Also still in are Team PokerStars Pros Ana Marquez, Jonathan Duhamel and Salvatore Bonavena.

Schimpf Done In By Big Slick

A preflop raising war resulted in Ronny Schimpf being all in for around 110,000 and dominated by Jeffrey Hakim.

Showdown
Schimpf: {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}
Hakim: {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}

According to the PokerNews Odds Calculator, Schimpf had just a 23.30% chance of winning the hand compared to Hakim's 72.03% — there was a 4.67% chance of a tie. Schimpf's chances fell to 17.88% on the {10-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{8-Hearts}, while the {4-Hearts} turn further knocked that down to 9.09%.

Schimpf needed a queen on the river to make Broadway and stay alive, but it was not in the cards as the {7-Hearts} appeared.

Jesus Be the Nuts

Jesus Sanchez, Mikhail Petrov, and Nicholas Galtos took a flop of {3-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{7-Spades}. Sanchez checked, Petrov fired 8,000, and Galtos called. Sanchez reached for a handful of blue T5,000 chips, added five red T1,000 chips, and tossed out a raise to 30,000. Both Petrov and Galtos called.

The turn was the {j-Diamonds}, and Sanchez grabbed two towers of chips, one purple (T500) the other red, topped them off with five blue chips, and slid forward 55,000. Petrov tanked for 30 seconds, folded, and the action was on Galtos.

"How much do you have behind?" the Australia asked, lifting off his sunglasses.

"About fifty-seven," Sanchez answered after quickly counting. "Fifty-eight."

"I'm all in," Galtos announced.

"Call!" Sanchez blurted immediately.

Sanchez: {6-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
Galtos: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}

Sanchez flopped the nuts, but after turning a set of jacks, Galtos wasn't drawing dead. The {10-Clubs} bricked on the river however, and Sanchez more than doubled to 330,000 chips.

Galtos and Petrov slipped to 140,000 and 150,000 respectively.

Boyaciyan Looking to go One Better

David Boyaciyan came 2nd here last season for a cool €535,000 and is still in with a chance of making back-to-back final tables after he doubled up his short stack.

Marc-Andre Ladouceur opened to 6,200 before the Dutchman moved all in for 61,400. John Taramas was sat behind and took his time before making the call. That was enough to isolate Boyaciyan.

Boyaciyan: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Taramas: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

The board ran {q-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{10-Spades}{a-Clubs} to make Boyaciyan a set of tens.

"That Was a Fun Hand"

Manuel Bevand (Day 1b)
Manuel Bevand (Day 1b)

Mark "dipthrong" Herm opened to 6,000 from the cutoff seat, Manuel Bevand called in the small blind, and Denys Larin three-bet to 17,400 from the big blind. Herm responded with a four-bet to 17,400, and after removing his sunglasses to examine Herm's four-bet, Bevand five-bet to 48,000.

Larin examined the remainder of his stack, grabbed all of his blue T5,000 chips, then thought better of it and folded.

The action was back on Herm, who asked Bevand, "You flat with something big?"

"Possibly," Bevand returned, grinning. "I know you have nothing."

There was a beat, and Bevand continued to needle Herm.

"Don't do it," he said looking at the clock. "There's still lots of time left."

Herm obliged, mucking his cards.

"Show the {2-Clubs}," he told Bevand.

"No, this is way too tricky to show," he responded. "That was a fun hand."
