Bad Timing from Lundmark Sees Him Bust

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Kent Lundmark was down to around 19,000 when he shoved from early position. Ekrem Sanioglu was in late position and made the call after getting a count.

Lundmark: {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Sanioglu: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}

The board ran {q-Spades}{4-Spades}{10-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades} and the Swede got up and left without saying a word.

Adams Still in Contention after Making a Big Fold

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Timothy Adams had a superb 2012. He won a World Series of Poker bracelet, reached the final table of WPT Paris and the final table of the WSOPE Main Event to name but three of his excellent results. Fast forward to today and Adams is still in contention for a deep run in the EPT Deauville High Roller thanks to a big fold in a hand against JC Alvarado.

The board read {7-Hearts}{8-Spades}{7-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} and Alvarado had moved all-in for 146,000 chips, with around two-thirds of that amount in the pot. Adams tanked for close to five minutes before finally letting his hand go.

Sometimes its the chips you do not lose that are more important than those you win in this game.

Wigg's Button Raise Shows Extreme Strength

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Anton Wigg is a seasoned professional who knows how to take advantage of a situation when one arrives. Once just arrived and guess what? He took advantage of it.

A short-stacked Ben Warrington opened to 3,200 under the gun and when the action passed around to Andras Nemeth on the button Nemeth asked to see how many chips Warrington had. When he counted them he flat-called.

Wigg was next to act and he remained stoic for the count of 30 before reaching for raising chips and three-betting to 9,800. Both blinds folded, Warrington looked pained to let his hand go and Nemeth quickly relinquished his hand.

Chris McClung = Man Made Yo-Yo

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Chris McClung
Chris McClung

Some players have to stay in the action as grinding just isn't for them. Chris MClung is one of those players. This tournament has been no different for him as his stack has been swinging violently.

He was down to his last 33,100 but a double up courtesy of Davidi Kitai has bucked his recent trend.

Kitai opened to 4,000 off the button and made a considered call when the Canadian shoved from the small blind.

McClung: {k-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Kitai: {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs}

The board ran {8-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} to make McClung a flush. Kitai is cruising and could afford the hit.

Berenede in Push-or-Fold Mode

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Paul Berende has ust been joking with Team PokerStars Pro Vicky Coren that he now has 600 points more than starting stack, part of that stack has come from first shoving on Kevin Vandersmissen and more recently Benjamin Pollak.

Pollak was under the gun and he raised to 3,500. The action passed all the way around to Berende in the small blind, who asked how many chips Pollak had behind. Armed with this information Berende moved all in and after Coren folded her big blind, Pollak let his hand go.

Sanioglu Comes Unstuck from Tricky Situation

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Mikhail Korotkikh was calling for Ekrem Sanioglu to have a penalty after he got lucky to double up with {a-Spades}{10-Hearts} versus {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}.

The board ran {4-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{10-Clubs} causing him to bang the table and shout. Hilariously the floor man explained through dance the difference between Korotkikh's reaction earlier and Sanioglu's reaction at the time. Korotkikh and others around laughed and Sanioglu escaped punishment.

EPT Deauville High Roller Day 1: Vladimir Troyanovski Leads a Star-Studded Field

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Vladimir Troyanovski
Vladimir Troyanovski

Thursday marked the start of the €10,300 PokerStars.fr European Poker Tour High Roller, a tournament that some regard as the festival’s flagship event. For their €10,300, players received 50,000 tournament chips, a superb blind structure that increased every 60 minutes and the chance to pit their wits against some of the best poker players in the business.

By the time play came to an end there were 83 unique entries and a total of 14 reloads in the pot, and with registration open until the end of the first level of Day 2, which will be at around 13:00CET, there could well be a €1,000,000 prize pool created. Fifty-one players survived Day 1.

The man who is in the best position to win the lion’s share of this huge prize pool is Vladimir Troyanovski who managed to turn his starting stack into 266,200.

Some of the other big stacks include Kevin Vandersmissen (262,000) and JC Alvarado (246,700). Team PokerStars Pros Vicky Coren (52,900) and Eugene Katchalov (90,800) also managed to navigate their way through to Day 2.

Although players were permitted to make one reload of their stack if they lost their initial stack, we will not be seeing a whole host of big names on Day 2. The likes of Roberto Romanello, PCA champion Dimitar Danchev, Dominik Nitsche and Kent Lundmark all used a single bullet and decided not to reload. Michael Tureniec, Steve O’Dwyer and Team PokerStars Pro Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier each busted out, reloaded and busted out again – an expensive day’s poker for that talented trio.

As mentioned, Day 2 starts at 12:00CET and the PokerNews Live Reporting team will be on the tournament floor bringing you all of the action from this stellar event. Until then it is goodnight from Deauville!
