Castaignon Fights Back

Level 31 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante
Remi Castaignon
Remi Castaignon

Remi Castaignon raised preflop to 250,000 and Walid Bou Habib made the call from the big blind to see a {6-Spades}{K-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} flop which both players checked.

On the {K-Diamonds} turn, Bou Habib bet 275,000 and Castaignon made the call to see the {8-Hearts} on the river. Now the Lebanese player bet a strong looking 625,000 but when Castaignon reached for chips, it wasn't just for 'calling chips', it was for 'raising chips'.

The Frenchman made it 2 million and Bou Habib tanked for a couple of minutes before folding.

Romeo Doubles Through Castaignon

Level 31 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante

It folded to Remi Castaignon on the button who raised to 250,000, and both Robert Romeo (small blind) and Walid Bou Habib (big blind) called.

All three checked the {6-Spades}{2-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} flop, then when the {2-Clubs} fell on the turn Romeo pushed out four blue plaques for a bet of 400,000. Bou Habib folded quickly, then Castaignon pushed out enough red chips to call.

The river brought the {4-Clubs} and an all-in push from Romeo, which after a short pause Castaignon called.

Romeo quickly tabled his {A-Spades}{K-Clubs} for kings and deuces, and Castaignon was made to show his hand as well — {K-Clubs}{5-Spades} for the same hand with a lesser kicker. With that double-up Romeo now has more than 30 big blinds.

Robert Romeo Eliminated in 3rd Place (€275,000)

Level 31 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante
Robert Romeo - 3rd place
Robert Romeo - 3rd place

Remi Castaignon raised to 250,000 preflop from the button, Robert Romeo then three-bet to 550,000 in the small blind. Walid Bou Habib got out of the way and Castaignon brought out the plaques, four-betting to an amount we weren't able to ascertain. The reason for that was that Romeo announced all in and Castaignon instantly called.

Romeo: {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}
Castaignon: {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}

The flop came {5-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} and Romeo needed running cards to survive. The {3-Spades} gave him some split outs but the {10-Hearts} river wasn't one of them and instead the man who qualified for just $4 has made a decent return on his investment.

Country-by-county, day-by-day

Level 31 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante

Lebanon's performance at EPT Deauville has been extraordinary, but it isn't until you see it in line-graph form that the full scale of the achievement can be really appreciated. PokerStars Blog, with lots of help from Mad Harper, take a look at the countries' progress through the tournament.

Bou Habib Draws First Blood

Level 32 : 80,000/160,000, 20,000 ante

They've begun a new level here at the start of heads-up play, with the blinds now up to 80k/160k with a 20k ante.

Early action saw Walid Bou Habib raise to 350,000 from the button, and Remi Castaignon slide out the needed plaques and chips to call. The flop came {4-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Castaignon touched the side of his hand to the blue felt to check. Bou Habib then continued for 400,000, and Castaignon called.

The turn then brought the {3-Clubs} and Castaignon checked right away once more. Bou Habib checked behind.

The river was the {10-Diamonds} and when Castaignon checked, Bou Habib bet 550,000 and Castaignon called relatively quickly.

Bou Habib turned over {6-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for sixes and tens, and Castaignon mucked.

Five Million-Chip Pot to Castaignon

Level 32 : 80,000/160,000, 20,000 ante
Remi Castaignon
Remi Castaignon

Walid Bou Habib limped on the button for 160,000 before Remi Castaignon bumped the price up to 450,000. Habib gave it a minute before making the call to see a {K-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop.

Both players checked to see the {K-Spades} on the turn and Castaignon led out for 850,000 this time. Bou Habib made the call and the dealer pushed out the {10-Hearts} on the river.

This time Castaignon bet a substantial 1.5 million, but Bou Habib had no intent of folding and made the call. The Frenchman turned over {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts} for two pair and Bou Habib mucked - Castaignon has over a 2:1 chip lead now.

Castaignon Continues to Chip Up

Level 32 : 80,000/160,000, 20,000 ante

After Remi Castaignon won that 5 million-plus chip pot off of Walid Bou Habib, the pair took turns raising buttons and claiming blinds and antes for a few hands.

Then a hand developed in which Bou Habib raised to 325,000 from the button, then Castaignon interrupted the pattern with a three-bet to 900,000 and after a short pause Bou Habib folded.

After that came another hand in which Castaignon raised and Bou Habib called to create a pot of 690,000. Both checked the {Q-Clubs}{J-Spades}{2-Spades} flop, then Bou Habib checked-called bets of 525,000 by Castaignon on both the {2-Clubs} turn and {5-Clubs} river.

Castaignon then showed {J-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} for jacks and deuces, and Bou Habib mucked.

Castaignon Dominating

Level 32 : 80,000/160,000, 20,000 ante

Remi Castaignon raised to 325,000 from the button/small blind but Walid Bou Habib made it 825,000 from the big blind. Castaignon made the call to see a flop of {10-Hearts}{4-Spades}{9-Clubs} which both players checked.

The {7-Clubs} came on the turn and Bou Habib checked a second time, it was like a red flag to a bull for the Frenchman who bet an interestingly small 400,000. Bou Habib called to see the {9-Spades} pair the board on the river before checking a third time.

Castaignon reached deep and pulled out several stacks before making a substantial bet of 1.5 million, but this was too much for the Lebanese player who folded again.
