Hands 30-32: Touma Crippled by Shafikov's Aces

Level 31 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante
Denys Shafikov
Denys Shafikov

Hand #30: Andreas Samuelsson raised under the gun plus one to 270,000 and he won the pot.

Hand #31: Frederik Jensen raised pre flop and picked up the blinds and antes.

Hand #32: Denys Shafikov raised under the gun to 250,000 and Amir Touma called from his direct left. Jensen called from the small blind and Samuelsson did so as well from the big blind.

The flop brought out {A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and both blinds checked to Shafikov who bet 450,000. Touma called rather quickly and both blinds folded. The turn was the {5-Clubs} and Shafikov looked at Touma for quite some time before betting 1,050,000. Touma put the call aside before sliding it forward, and with 4.1 million in the middle the {4-Clubs} hit on the river.

Shafikov started at Touma again and this time he bet 1,490,000, which was snap-called. Shafikov showed {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades} against Touma's {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}, and Touma was knocked down to 1,300,000 while Shafikov soars with 15,805,000.

Hand 33-35: Touma Can't Hit His Gutshot

Level 31 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante

Hand #33: Amir Touma moved all in under the gun for 1,280,000 and Denys Shafikov, still stacking chips from the last hand, folded his big blind.

Hand #34: Andreas Samuelsson made it 240,000 from the button and Amir Touma called from the big blind. The flop came {K-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and Touma checked. Samuelsson bet 185,000 into the 720,000 pot and Touma called. The {4-Clubs} hit the turn and Touma, with 1.2 million behind, checked. With 1,090,000 in the pot Samuelsson bet 240,000. Touma called again.

The {7-Hearts} completed the board and with 1,570,000 in the middle and 955,000 behind, Touma checked again. Samuelsson checked behind and showed a winner with {A-Hearts}{3-Spades} as Touma had just {J-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} for nothing more than a double gutshot.

Hand #35: Steven Warburton made it 250,000 under the gun and Samuelsson called from the cutoff. Denys Shafikov called from the button, Rainer Kempe called from the big blind.

The flop came {6-Spades}{Q-Spades}{8-Hearts} and action checked to Shafikov on the button. Shafikov bet 450,000 into the 1,240,000 pot and action folded to Samuelsson who called. The {K-Spades} hit the turn and both players checked. The river paired the board with the {8-Clubs} and Samuelsson checked. Shafikov bet 650,000 into the 1,940,000 pot. Samuelsson called. Shafikov showed {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} and Samuelsson mucked.

Hand #36: Amir Touma moved all in for 855,000 from the button and he won the blind and antes.

Hands 37-38: Warburton Shoves on Juanda on the Final Hand

Level 31 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante
Steve Warburton
Steve Warburton

Hand #37: From the button Rainer Kempe raised to 240,000 and he raked in the pot.

Hand #38: Andreas Samuelsson raised to 260,000 under the gun plus two and Steve Warburton three-bet to 590,000 on the button. John Juanda pulled the trigger from the big blind, making 1,220,000 and the action was now back on Samuelsson who eventually folded.

Warburton did not take too long before moving all in, and the pressure was now on Juanda.

Juanda asked for a count, and almost immediately he found out that a call would be for his tournament life. Juanda had 4,040,000 left behind.

"You got it, huh?" Juanda said with a wry smile.

In the mean time Warburton, with a smile, picked up the all-in triangle and showed it to his friends on the rail.

"You look so confident," Juanda said, "You even took off your glasses."

"It's quite hot here," Warburton responded.

"It is what it is, John," Warburton said after a while.

"Do you want to finish ninth?" Warburton asked.

"You either have a very strong hand, or you are a very good talker," Juanda said, as he folded his cards after seven minutes in the tank.

"Obviously I have a very good hand, I just put five million chips into the pot," Warburton laughed.

"Just show it," Juanda said, but Warburton mucked his cards on the last hand of the night.

Denys Shafikov Rules in Barcelona with Nine Players Remaining in Main Event

Level 31 : 60,000/120,000, 20,000 ante
Denys Shafikov
Denys Shafikov

Day 5 of the 2015 PokerStars.com European Poker Tour Barcelona €5,300 Main Event started out with 36 players, but right off the bat the chips were flying. Action was fast and furious, and like the bad guys in the movies, players were knocked out left and right.

Mikalai Vaskaboinikau was the first player to get eliminated when his eights couldn't hold against Steve Warburton's {Q-}{J-}, but he certainly wouldn't be the only one. Jude Ainsworth was found on the rail early on as well after he fell victim to Frederik Jensen. Jensen would eventually make the final table, and so would Rainer Kempe, who was responsible for Andre Akkari's elimination. Akkari found himself all in holding {A-}{10-} and trailing Kempe's {A-}{K-}.

It wasn't meant to be for one-time chip leader Daniel Dvoress. either. He lost his chips with {A-}{J-} to World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner Pascal LeFrancois' pocket kings.

Jonathan Abdellatif ran into aces with {K-}{J-}, Shyam Srinivasan lost with sixes against tens, and Team PokerStars Pro Matthias De Meulder found his dream crushed when LeFrancois hit an ace with {A-}{K-} against his kings.

Bad beats and suck outs were everywhere to be seen, as well as hero calls and big celebrations after coin flips won. Mario Sanchez busted Philipp Kober with jacks to {A-}{6-}, Delgado lost to Kempe with {K-}{J-} to {J-}{8-} (eight on the flop), and Jonas Palsgaard lost with {10-}{7-} after being knocked down to just an ante the hand before.

Before anyone knew it, the tournament was down to two tables and the action didn't stop there. Despite players asking the floor to start hand-for-hand play because of a difference in pace, players got knocked out really fast and most of them fell on the feature table.

Meanwhile, Denys Shafikov was dominating the feature table. On the outer table, John Juanda and Jensen reigned.

Dominykas Karmazinas had been knocked down to just a few chips and made a remarkable comeback, only to bust in 14th when he ran jacks into queens. EPT Vienna champion Oleksii Khoroshenin first lost a big pot to Shafikov with {A-}{K-}, and he fell not much later against that very same Shafikov with fives to eights to bust in 13th place.

Lefrancois fell in 12th place when he shoved his last 25 big blinds over an open raise by Juanda. Juanda called with queens and beat out Lefrancois' eights.

Joao Brito was another victim of Shafikov's tear, as he lost with {A-}{2-} to {A-}{9-}. Then, Peter Eichhardt would be Shafikov's last victim of the day. Eichhardt, the start-of-day chip leader, got it in with {K-}{9-} to Shafikov's deuces and couldn't hit.

With Eichhardt's departure in 10th place, the final nine players were redrawn and took their seats at the unofficial final table. Play continued for another few levels, but no one wanted to go home. Kempe was down to just a couple of big blinds, but turned those into 31 "bigs" a couple hands later to back in the game; he ended play with 21 big blinds. Amir Touma also was very short, but got two shoves through to at least have somewhat of a fighting chance tomorrow.

The goal at the beginning of the day was to play down to six, or at least to the official final table of eight. At last-minute's notice, the tournament organizers decided to halt play with nine left at 12:40 a.m. With that, the following nine will return to Casino Barcelona tomorrow at 12 p.m. local time.
