Shuffle Up And Deal! PokerStars EPT Prague Day1a

Play Begins at EPT Prague
Play Begins at EPT Prague
Welcome to the beautiful city of Prague in the Czech Republic. This is the first time the EPT has stopped in this country; in fact, it is the first major poker tournament to be held here.

We are in the Hilton hotel and the conference centre has been turned into a huge poker room with 25 tournament tables and 15 cash tables. We are expecting over 400 players to compete in this €5000-entry tournament.

Thomas Kremser, who recently won a lifetime achievement award at the European Poker Awards, has just announced "Shuffle up and deal" and play is underway. Today the players will be playing eight one-hour levels.

30 minutes in and registration will be open until the end of the second level.

In the first decent pot on Rob Taylor's table UTG raised to 150 and was called in 3 spots.

The flop came {4-Spades}{7-Spades}{K-Hearts} and UTG continued his aggression with a bet of 375. All three of his opponents called.

The turn was the {6-Spades} and you would think this might be a bad card for UTG but he bet out 1200 and everyone folded.

With a lot of big-name pros absent from Day 1a and a high percentage of on-line qualifiers, I'm finding it hard to recognize more one or two players on each table at the moment.

Rolf Slotboom, however, is easily recognizable, not by his pony tail but by the manner in which he is trying to make his starting stack look bigger putting his packet of tictacs on top.

Ludovic Lacay Chips Up!

Ludovic Lacay
Ludovic Lacay
Ludovic Lacay just took down an 8,000 chip pot calling a 2,000 bet on the river of a {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs} board holding {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}. Whilst contemplating the call he said "You have the nuts or nothing." After he called his opponent mucked his nothing.

"It's not Omaha," commented another player at the table, apparently confused as to why Ludovic had a tough decision calling with a straight on a paired board.

Three-way All-in Action

Nicolas Levi
Nicolas Levi
Nicolas Levi got it all in with {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} on a {K-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{10-Hearts} board. How excited he must have been to find two callers. Unfortunately for the Frenchman, both his opponents held the same hand, but thankfully neither were free-rolling for a flush so the pot was split three ways.

Meanwhile an American Pokerstars.com qualifier on Katja Thater's left is apologizing for continuously putting bad beats on the table. "I'm just a bad Internet player, I'm really sorry".

Rob Taylor Wins Large Pot

Rob Taylor
Rob Taylor
Taylor limped in from second position. The player one from the cut-off then made a minimum raise and the button called. Taylor called as well.

The flop is {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{J-Spades}. Taylor checks, the pre-flop raiser bets 500, and both the button and Taylor call.

The turn is the {3-Clubs}. Checked to the button who bets 1500. Taylor then raises to 3800 and is called by the button. The river is {8-Diamonds} and 2000 more from Taylor is again called. He shows {A-Spades}{3-Spades} and his opponent mucks.

The Irishman moves his stack up to 15,100.

Rob Taylor Eliminates a Short Stack!

Rob Taylor
Rob Taylor
An unknown player limped UTG as did a player in late position. Rob Taylor made it 600 from the button. The UTG player deliberated for a while before moving all in for 2,125. It was called by the late-position player before Rob moved all in.

The late-position guy got out of the way and it was {A-Clubs}{A-Spades} for Rob and {5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} for UTG.

The board was dealt {3-Hearts}{4-Spades}{9-Hearts}{10-Spades}{Q-Clubs} and Rob Taylor eliminates a player and moves up to 17,500 chips.
