We are on a 15-Minute Break

Marcus Golser
Marcus Golser
Johnny Lodden, who somehow managed to fly under our radar for the first two levels, has been spotted on Markus Golser’s table. He won’t be happy though as he is down to 6,500 with Golser doing rather well on 15,000.

Meanwhile, Rolf Slotboom is continuing to show his table his citric preferences. On level one he ate an orange, leaving the skin on the table. Now he's moved on to apples. "This apple traveled all the way from Denmark. It must be a good apple."

Julian Thew In 20,000-Chip Pot!

Julian Thew
Julian Thew
EPT Baden winner Julian Thew was just involved in a 20,000-chip pot. The action started on a flop that read {K-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{3-Spades}.

The small blind moved all in for 6,325, which was nearly three times the 2,600 that was already in the middle. He was reluctantly called by a player in middle position who had 2,000 left after making the call.

Julian Thew was left with a difficult decision on the button, wondering out loud if they were both on the flush draw. He eventually raised enough to put the original caller all in, which prompted a swift fold from the player who was getting 10-to-1 on his money.

Julian: {K-Spades}{J-Hearts}
Small blind: {K-Hearts}{5-Clubs}

The turn was horrible for Julian, the {5-Diamonds}. The other player in the hand had folded {K-Diamonds}{J-Spades}, so he only had two outs left and the {A-Diamonds} that fell on the river was not one of them.

Julian was left with 9,000 after this hand, whilst the small blind tripled up to just over 20,000.

220 Players Still Playing on Day 1a

The official starting number was 241 as we had a few late registrations.

Rob Taylor has just taken a big hit and is down to 11,000 again.

"I figured the guy had nothing so I kept calling him down. On the river he went all in and I couldn't put him on a hand, so I called. He did have nothing, but he made a backdoor flush."

George McKeever is Eliminated!

George McKeever
George McKeever
Irishman George McKeever had gotten low in chips and moved all in on the turn of a {Q-Spades}{6-Spades}{7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} board, after betting half of his chips on the flop. He was called by a player with {6-Clubs}{8-Spades}, and the {4-Spades} fell on the river to make a straight which beat George's {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}.

Ludovic Lacay Likes Bluffing

Ludovic Lacay
Ludovic Lacay
Having lost half of his stack in small pots, Ludovic Lacay moved all in from the small blind on a {3-Spades}{8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{5-Spades} board.

There was already 8,000 in the pot and Ludovic had 7,500 in front of him. The big blind was his opponent, and had him well-covered. He gave Ludovic a grilling, first asking if he wanted a call, then asking if he would show if he folded. In the end, Ludovic's opponent folded with the immortal words, "You have a monster or a bluff."

Ludovic showed the {K-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} which in our books is definitely a bluff!

Ooohhh Yeahhhh!

If you remember the film "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," then you'll remember the song "Oh Yeah" by Swedish band Yello. This is the music played over the loudspeakers when the blinds go up at EPT Prague.

It was funny after the first two levels, but I'm sure we'll all be really sick of it by Day 1b if not sooner.

Meanwhile, PokerStars qualifier Eric Turner from the USA has eliminated Spaniard Ton De Lange with {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} against {K-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} on a king-high flop.

Also, Czech player Jifi Kulhanek flopped a big blind special, making a straight with {6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} in an unraised pot taking out German Frank Stumpf in an 8,000-chip pot.

We Had a Big Chip Leader...

Andrej Nagy
Andrej Nagy
...but Andrej Nagy of Slovakia is in every pot, so any chip-count that's more than two minutes old probably isn't very accurate.

At one point, he had over 40,000, then on my way back to the media room he was on 27,000 and trying to get a Norwegian player to fold a set of aces. Not surprisingly, he didn't succeed and showed eight-high.
