Katja Thater Eliminated

Just before the break, Katja Thater picked up A-A and made a pre-flop raise, getting one caller. The flop came king-high and uncoordinated. Thater bet out and her opponent smooth-called. The turn was a blank and Thater moved all in. Her opponent called and turned up K-Q. Unfortunately, her opponent hit his five-outer on the river when a king fell, and Thater hit the rail.

No Luck for the Irish

Stephen "AllinStevie" Devlin
Stephen "AllinStevie" Devlin
The Irish players who have traveled over to play this event have not got off to great starts. Stephen Devlin's 9,500 is less than starting stack but is still top of the Irish chip counts. Roy Brindley is the lowest on 3,100, then Liam Flood on 5,100 with Andy Black up to 6,800 from his early low of 3,000.

The Boys from Waterloo

Matt "ch0ppy" Kay, attempting to keep a low proflie
Matt "ch0ppy" Kay, attempting to keep a low proflie
Two of online poker's most feared players, Matt "ch0ppy" Kay and Mike "Timex" McDonald are both in today's field. Both also hail from the same Canadian city of Waterloo, Ontario. Neither player is old enough to set foot in a Las Vegas casino, but that hasn't stopped either of them from tearing up the felt, real or virtual.

McDonald recently won the Poker Stars EPT Dortmund, becoming the youngest player to capture an EPT title. He spent his 18th birthday last September playing in the WSOP-Europe and was busted from the Main Event by Jamie Gold. McDonald also made three cashes at last month's Aussie Millions, finishing 8th in the $5K Heads-Up, taking runner-up in the $1K NLHE, and winning the $1K Poker Pro event.

Kay is a constant presence on lists of the top ten online poker players. He won 9 online tournaments outright in 2007, including a $200K score for taking down the Poker Stars Sunday Million in January 2007. "ch0ppy" has made dozens of final tables and has recorded online tournament winnings exceeding $850,000.

Double Up Plus Some for Thorson

William Thorson
William Thorson
The cut off limps in, William Thorson does also on the button, Nicolas Levi makes up the small blind and Micke Norinder checks his option.

The flop is dealt {2-Spades}{2-Hearts}{3-Hearts} and all check.

The turn is {A-Diamonds} and the cut off bets 300, William makes it 800 and Nicolas and the cut off both call.

The river is the {J-Diamonds} and checked around to William who bets 2,100 leaving 400 behind. Nicolas makes the call and the cut off folds. William shows {Q-Clubs}{2-Clubs}, Nicolas mucks. William now has 7,800 after starting the hand with 3,500.

Roy Brindley is Eliminated

Roy Brindley lost most of his chips to Rolf Slotboom holding big slick on a J-T-x flop; Rolf held pocket tens. Brindley was unable to rebound after the hit and was sent to the rail just a few hands later.

Andy Black is Eliminated

Andy Black
Andy Black
Andy Black found {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds} and got all the chips in on the turn with the board reading {5-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} against Stig Farholt who was holding {6-Clubs}{7-Spades} for the flopped straight. The river was an inconsequential {Q-Spades} to send the Irishman out of the tournament.

"I should have folded on the flop...." were his words as he left the room.
