As usual, there is a lot of action at the start of Day 2. In the first two levels 45 players have been eliminated. We are about to enter level 11, where the blinds are 600/1,200 with a 100 ante.
19-year-old Andreas Sarling is playing his first international tournament, but there are no signs of nervousness so far. After a good start on Day 2, he has increased his stack from 56,500 to 92,000. This puts him second in chips at the moment in the PokerStars EPT German Open.
Annette Obrestad has been playing a lot of hands today, but lost some chips to Steve Jelinek when he doubled up with against Obrestad's . Jelinek is back up to 39k and Obrestad is down a bit to 47k.
Marcel Luske is, as always, one of the most colourful players in the field. He is now close to 100k after doubling up in a hand against Andreas Sarling from Åland. On a flop, Sarling bet, Luske went all in for 40k and Sarling eventually called... after watching the Dutchman eat soup while waiting for about five minutes for the 19-year-old's decision. Marcel was way ahead with his against Sarling's . Sarling is now down to 25k and Luske has around 95k.
In the seventies and eighties, Norwegian legend Thor Hansen traveled to any country in the world where he could find a good game of poker, since there were few in Norway. He eventually ended up in Las Vegas where he could play as much poker as he wanted, and that is his home today. Thor is doing well in the PokerStars EPT German Open and is now at 56k, two levels into Day 2.
“If this was the seventies, I would come to Germany to play poker often. I am sure there would be quite a few juicy games over here,” says Thor, with a big smile.
Nicolas Levi and Annette Obrestad tangled in many hands on Day 2, but now one of them has gone bye-bye. First Annette doubled up with set over set. On a flop of , Annette bet out and Levi called holding . On the turn , Annette bet 5,500, Levi went all in and Annette called holding pocket aces. With 20k left Levi doubled another player up on the table before losing his last chips with against Obrestad’s . Levi is out and Obrestad is back up on 65k.
Marek Kolk sat in the big blind holding when the small blind raised to 4,500. Kolk re-raised to 12k with 20k behind and his opponent went all-in for another 20k with pocket sixes. That was slightly more than Kolk had and the Estonian called. The flop came , the opponent's trips held up and Kolk is out.
Claudio Rinaldi started the day in second place behind Cyrille Chabot. Now he is in a tie for the chip lead with Manfred Bass at 146K. Jiri Kulhanek, who held the lead for a long time during Day 1b, is still in pretty good shape with 103K in front of him.
