Coliny Wins Some Back

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante
Justin Coliny
Justin Coliny

Justin Coliny headed to dinner break with a stack nearing a quarter-million, leading the field. While he appears to have taken a hit in the current level, he shows no signs of slowing down the aggression.

With about 2,500 in the pot on a flop of {q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{q-Hearts} heads up, Coliny bet 2,000, and his opponent in the small blind called.

The turn brought the {k-Diamonds}. The small blind checked, and Coliny checked back.

The river was the {j-Clubs}, putting four to a straight on the board, and Coliny fired 6,000 when checked to. The small blind thought for a minute before mucking, and the dealer pushed the pot Coliny's way.

Sepiol Makes 'Em Wonder

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante

A player in early position opened to 1,800 and was called by a middle-position player and Daniel Sepiol in the hijack.

Three ways to a flop of {8-Hearts}{5-Spades}{3-Spades}, the early-position player continued for 2,100. Both players behind quickly matched it.

The {q-Clubs} checked through.

After the {6-Spades} river dropped, completing the front-door flush draw, the players in early and middle position checked, and Sepiol fired 17,500—more than the pot. Both players laid their hands down, and Sepiol exposed the {a-Spades} before mucking, leaving the other card a mystery.

For the past week, the Heartland Poker Tour has been hosting a slew of side events here at the Hollywood Casino St. Louis.

An even 200 players took part in Event #5: $200 NLH Deep Stack, generating a prize pool of $32,600 to be divvied up between the top 23 spots. A few of those that managed to earn a piece of the prize pool include Charles Leroi (10th - $717), Timothy Reedy (13th - $619), Benjamin Paulsen (17th - $489), and Brian Tracy (20th - $424).

The final four players made a deal that saw local Anthony Wallace earn the title and $4,642, while Rodney Clanton ($4,642), William Backes ($4,641) and Luke Mulch ($4,641) all left with a nice chunk of change in their pockets.

Big Blind Special for Bryne

Level 7 : 300/600, 600 ante
Melissa Bryne
Melissa Bryne

While whatever Melissa Bryne enjoyed for dinner while on break will likely remain unknown, one thing's for sure: She returned to a sweet, sweet hand for dessert.

Preflop action kicked off when the hijack opened to 1,700. The button and small blind called, as did Bryne from the big blind.

The players checked to the preflop aggressor on a flop of {4-Clubs}{4-Spades}{3-Spades}, and he continued for 3,500. The button folded, and the small blind raised to 8,300. Bryne then three-bet to 20,000, leaving 15,700 behind.

The small blind went into the tank for a couple of minutes, alternating between checking his cards and grimacing. He eventually decided on a jam, covering Bryne, which she immediately called before turning over the nuts.

Melissa Bryne: {4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}
Opponent: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

Bryne's opponent's red kings didn't improve on the {2-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} runout, securing Bryne the double.

Level 6 : 200/500, 500 ante

Dan Wagner raised to 1,200 from under the gun, and Peter Nigh defended his big blind with a call.

Nigh checked the {3-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop over to Wagner, who bet 1,000. Nigh called.

The {6-Clubs} fell on the turn, and Nigh checked again. Wagner took a peek at Nigh's remaining 11,200 stack, then bet 3,000. Nigh folded.

Hammers Doesn't Get His Aces Cracked

Level 6 : 200/500, 500 ante

Tom Hammers, who took the recently departed Keith Heine's seat at monster chip leader Justin Coliny's table, announced, "Thirteen of the hundreds," before raising to 1,300 and telling the table that his "nine-six suited just got cracked!" The player next to act called, as did the big blind.

The big blind bet 1,500 on a {2-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} flop, and Hammers quickly shoved for 9,100. Both of his opponents folded, and Hammers flung his {a-}{a-} on the table saying, "nine-six cracked, aces hold up!"

Joseph Jams on Two

Level 6 : 200/500, 500 ante

Shawn Roberts checked a {7-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} flop from the small blind, as did Johanssy Joseph from under the gun. Matt Higgins bet 6,000 into a pot of 10,000, and Roberts check-raised to 16,500. Joseph then three-bet shoved for 41,700, sending Higgins deep into the tank.

Higgins stood up at one point, then counted down his remaining stack of 43,000. He eventually folded, and Roberts followed suit a few moments later, showing {q-}{q-} as he did. Joseph didn't show, and took down the pot.
