After several days of poker both online and live at the magnificent Wembley Stadium, Jakub Michalak has emerged as the winner of the International Stadiums Poker Tour inaugural event, officially banking himself a cool €1million.
Michalak is the number one ranked online player in Poland and in the top fifty in the world. He would be the first to admit he got lucky in two crucial pots against the aggressive Nottingham-based player Pete Linton but backed this up with intelligent and aggressive short-handed play to seal his victory.
Of course, with nearly €600,000 in overlay, there had been talk a deal being done both last night and this morning. The players spent the time before the final table hammering out the final details which were as follows:

Gwendoline Janot was the first player to be eliminated, she was crippled losing with pocket sevens to Xavier El Fassy's kings and was knocked out in the very next hand by Michalak.
Frenchman Alban Juen was next out, he'd started the day second in chips but after getting in a raising war against Linton, he was eliminated after losing the flip.
After the earlier battles, it was inevitable that Michalak and Linton would get into another big pot and this one would be the biggest of the tournament, as over half the chips in play went in the middle as Linton's ace-queen battled Michalak's king-jack.
The players took a dinner break but after only 30 minutes, Nick Hicks, who'd been mostly card dead for the final table and playing snugly was caught when Michalak flopped trips against Hicks' top pair.
Michalak went into the heads-up with nearly an 8:1 chip lead over recreational player Xavier El Fassy and it didn't take long for the chips to end up in the middle. El Fassy picked up kings against Michalak's A-7 but an ace on the flop was followed by another on the river and echoing the most famous commentary at Wembley Stadium, “They think it's all over, it is now.”
Wow, what a hand; the biggest pot of the tournament so far.
Pete Linton opened on the button with and Jakub Michalak three-bet to 1,200,000. Linton then clicked it back and min-four-bet and then instantly called when Michalak shoved all in for 17,000,000! Michalak turned over .
Michalak flew into the lead when the flop came into view and went further so when the landed on the turn. Linton needed to spike a ten and only a ten on the river to stay alive in the tournament, but it was the sending Linton to the rail and leaving Michalak with the welcome problem of having to stack up 28,000,000 chips!
Pete Linton raised to 325,000 preflop with and Jakub Michalak three-bet to 925,000 with from the blinds. Linton called to see an flop.
Michalak bet 525,000 and Linton called to see the on the turn. Michalak continued his aggression with a bet of 925,000 but again Linton wasn't going anywhere and he made the call.
The on the river was a blank and Michalak debated a third bet but opted to check and Linton checked back. Two million more chips moved from Linton to Michalak and the Pole is now over 15 million.
The next hand saw Gwendoline Janot all in preflop for her last five big blinds. It was passed around to Jakub Michalak in the big blind who made the obligatory call. The French lady was happy to see that she had live cards.
Michalak:
Janot:
The board came and neither player improved. Janot becomes the first player out of the tournament, 'officially' winning €73,000.
Pete Linton has just made a move that was truly world class and was reminiscent of the famous Phil Ivey versus Paul Jackson hand.
Linton opened to the 325,000 on the button and Jakub Michalak three-bet from the big blind to 750,000 with . Linton was not done with the hand and he four-bet to 1,470,000. Michalak then five-bet to 2,250,000. Amazingly, Linton moved all in and Michalak snap-folded.
Why was it amazing? Because Linton only held the lowly ! Fantastic play by Linton.
