Scheduling Notes

We mentioned earlier in the day that the plan was to play down to 24 players. We've received clarification from the staff that we'll play down to 24 or eight full levels, whichever comes first.

After dropping 48 players in the first two levels, the smart money is on reaching the 24-player mark.

Brunner Fiips a Coin

Mike Brunner waiting for action
Mike Brunner waiting for action
Under the gun, PokerStars online qualifier Mike Brunner moved all in for his final 20,400 chips. Action passed all the way around to the small blind where Team PokerStars Pro Leo Fernandez quietly announced a call. When the big blind eventually folded, the cards were on their backsides:

Brunner: {9-Diamonds} {9-Spades}
Fernandez: {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds}

"Come on, don't let me lose two of these in a row," pleaded Brunner. We're not sure what he's talking about, but we did see him run pocket queens into pocket kings early in the day.

In any event, let's run a board to see who runs good in this flip: {3-Clubs} {6-Clubs} {J-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {J-Spades}. It's Brunner's turn to win one, and he clapped his hands together in a celebration of relief.

Brunner - 43,000
Fernandez - 46,000

Johnny Blade Gets it In Good

With raise to 4,200 in front of him, John Bladon moved all in for 27,800 total. The initial raiser called when the action came back around, and Bladon was officially at risk of elimination.

Showdown
Bladon: {A-?} {J-?}
Opponent: {K-?} {Q-?}

The board smiled on the gregarious Bladon, coming out {7-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {3-Spades} {A-Spades}. A very excited "Johnny Blade" has notched himself a double up, and he's almost back to an average stack with 58,000.

Double Dutch

The last Dutchman standing, Joost Vereecken has just ensured that he'll be hanging around for a bit longer.

When a player in front of him opened to 4,000, Vereecken shipped his 26,000 into the middle with pocket jacks. The raiser called with ace-king, and the race was on.

The board was all low cards, eventually making Vereecken an unnecessary straight on the river. His jacks stay good, doubling him up to about 55,000 and keeping the hopes of the Dutch alive here in Uruguay.

Cowboys Not Zapiello's Type

Marcelo Da Fonseca opened to 4,500 from middle position, and Daniela de Lima Zapiello three-bet him up to 12,000 straight. Da Fonseca thought it over carefully before putting in the call, and the two went heads up to the flop.

The dealer spread out {A-Spades} {7-Hearts} {7-Spades}, and both players checked. On the {10-Hearts} turn, Da Fonseca led out with a bet of 11,000, and Zapiello quickly flicked in the call.

The river brought the {Q-Spades} and another check from each player. Da Fonseca tabled {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} for two pair, and Zapiello frowned and flashed her {K-Hearts} {K-Clubs} as they went into the muck.

Zapiello slips to 79,000 after taking that little hit to her stack.

Moving Day

Level up! The new round has the blinds at 1,000/2,000 with an ante of 200. The big board shows that 89 players remain, and the short stacks are really going to start feeling the pinch as this level progresses.
