Out of Joost

Joost Vereecken put in a raise on the button and the player in the big blind went all in. Vereecken called with {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts} and was dominating his opponent's {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}.

Unfortunately for Vereecken, the board ran out {8-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. That hand knocked Joost down to under 4,000 and he was eliminated two hands later.

Johnny Blade Loses His Edge

Johnny Blade just about to shove
Johnny Blade just about to shove
An older gentleman under the gun came in raising to 6,000. The table folded around to the blinds where John Bladon tanked it up in the small. After some consideration, he moved all in over the top. The big blind folded, and the initial raiser made the call for his tournament life, all 18,400 of his chips now committed to this hand.

Showdown
Bladon: {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}
Opponent: {A-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}

The board was just what the at-risk player was hoping for as it ran down {A-Clubs} {K-Spades} {6-Spades} {4-Spades} {3-Clubs}. That spells a double up for one player and a halving of the stack for the other; both men are just about even with 40,000 right now.

"Nice Hand, Caballero"

We joined a pot in progress on the turn with the board reading {4-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {8-Spades}. Norbert Ludges eyed up the stack of his lone opponent, Jose Agustin for a minute or two. Finally, he fired out a sloppy bet as the chips tumbled into the middle of the table. It was enough to cover Agustin, and he made the call all in for his last 28,700.

Showdown
Agustin: {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds} (aces up)
Ludges: {7-Hearts} {9-Hearts} (open-ended straight draw)

Sure enough, the {6-Hearts} binked right on the river, drawing a too-happy, "Wowaaaa!" from Ludges. He grinned widely as the chips were pushed in his direction, and Agustin quietly made his way toward the exit, offering a token, "Nice hand, caballero," on his way out.

And There Go the Rest

Leo Fernandez
Leo Fernandez
On the very next hand, Leo Fernandez put his final 3,700 chips into the pot under the gun. To set the stage, picture him with a very disappointed scowl on his face for the duration of this hand. He was called by two players, and they went off to the flop for the small side pot.

The board ran out {5-Spades} {J-Clubs} {8-Spades} {2-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} with the two live players checking through the turn. On the river, one of them fired out 4,500 with a strangely-bluffy {A-Clubs} {7-Clubs}, and his opponent made a good call with {4-Spades} {4-Clubs} to take the side pot. He took the main pot too; Fernandez's cards had long since been in the muck by that point, and he finally was able to stand and wish his table luck as he departed.

Play On!

We're back in action with Level 13. The clock tells us that 69 players remain, and we should be approaching the bubble by the time the blinds move again.

Our Very Own Lucky Charm

Stephen "stevie444" Chidwick is having himself a nice Day 2 so far, essentially doubling up from his starting stack of close to 80,000. We'd like to think his luck has something to do with the pep talk Lynn gave him just before play started this afternoon. Check out what Stevie had to say:

You can see all of Lynn's videos from Punta del Este over on PokerNews TV.
