Chan and Guillen Survive Day 2
Season 3 of the LAPT continued today with Day 2 of the Grand Final at the City Center Casino in Rosario, Argentina. Approximately 130 players returned at the start of the day in the hopes of making it to the money and competing for their share of the $1,176,200 prize pool.
Nicolas “PKaiser” Fierro began as the chip leader with 278,200 and remained as such throughout much of the day; however, when action stopped he was left with just over 100,000. PokerStars had numerous Team Pros return for their shot at the title, but few could survive. Leo Fernandez, Veronica Dabul, Maria Mayrinck, Dennis Phillips and Christian De Leòn all hit the rail. Likewise, Jose "Nacho" Barbero's hope of winning his third LAPT title came to an end just shy of the money. On the other hand, Barbero's fellow South American teammate, Andre Akkari, managed to squeeze into the money in 38th place.
While many fell, others thrived. Terrence Chan will return to Day 3, as will Angel Guillen, the sole remaining member of Team PokerStars Pro. Matthias Habernig will be going for back-to-back LAPT titles. Joining them will be some serious contenders including Jose Guevara, Mario Niciforo, Freddy Tores, and our chip leader with 346,000, Francisco de Belaustegui.
The final 24 players at the LAPT Grand Final will return at 12:00 ARG and play to the final table. Join PokerNews then for up-to-the-mintue new, chip counts and eliminations!
