Fonseca Doubles through Manzano

Level 28 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante

At this stage of the tournament, having even one hand not hold up its equity edge can be devastating to a player's championship hopes. Marcelo Fonseca open-shoved for about 1 million from the cutoff spot and was called by small blind Alex Manzano. Manzano's {a-Spades}{q-Spades} was in the lead against Fonseca's {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}. A swarm of Brazilians materialized on the rail from other side events to cheer on Fonseca. First they called for a jack, but by the turn {4-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{10-Clubs} they changed their tune and pleaded for an eight. The river delivered the {8-Hearts}. The crowd cheered and a jubliant Fonseca clasped hands with countryman Joao Bauer as Manzano paid off the double-up.
