The Master Classics of Poker in Holland's capital of Amsterdam kicked off it's Main Event today and a total of 121 entries were done. After 9 levels of play, just 50 remain which Dutchman Nico Kuan in the lead, having built his 30,000-starting stack into a chip castle worth 195,000. Former champion Noah Boeken, who lifted the trophy and €306,821-cheque back in 2013, finished the day fourth in chips. The Top 5 is as followed:

2Sergio CabreraSpain179,800
3Bart SpijkersThe Netherlands170,300
4Noah BoekenThe Netherlands170,200
5Henk PostThe Netherlands155,800

The biggest annual tournament on Dutch soil attracted the biggest poker stars from the country, alongside a slate of international poker celebs. November Niners Pierre Neuville, Jorryt van Hoof and Michiel Brummelhuis, EPT champions Noah Boeken, Steve O'Dwyer, Rob Hollink, Robin Ylitalo, Noah Boeken, Jan Bendik, Anton Wigg and Pieter de Korver, and WPT Champion of Champions Farid Yachou were amongst the players participating. They fought for chips alongside players like Jasper Wetemans, Steven van Zadelhoff, Govert Metaal, Jack Salter, Felix Stephensen and local hero Cor Janssen.

Bart Spijker, a Dutch player known for his love of high-stakes action, came back from live tournament retirement to play the Main Event. He got off to a great start, catapulting his 30,000-starting stack to a record high 165,000 before the dinner break had even begun. A set of tens all in against an overpair with two cards to come was all it took to skyrocket his stack. He dropped some chips, only to win them back not much later and end the day with 170,300.

Noah Boeken, the first ever Dutch EPT champion, started out great busting high stakes cash game specialist Floris van der Ven. Van der Ven was the first to depart as he couldn't part ways with kings against the unexpected seven-three suited Boeken was playing in a three-bet pot. Boeken had hit two pair on the turn and Van der Ven was drawing slim as the chips went in. In one of the last levels of the day, Boeken got it all in with tens against nines and eights and saw a board full of blanks to make his day. Boeken bagged 170,200.

One player that couldn't survive the first day, was Jussi Nevanlinna. The high stakes Fin won the event here in Amsterdam last year for €300,000, after already having made the final table back in 2014 (5th for €71,985) and 2011 (2nd for €227,850) as well. He busted in the last level after a big bluff on the river went sour against his countryman Samuli Sipila.

The Main Event Day 1b plays out on Tuesday, November 22nd. In the Main Event hiatus, players have the option to play multiple different events. The biggest one them being the €10,000 High Roller that's running on Sunday. PokerNews will again be reporting live from the floor of Holland Casino Amsterdam from the first flop till the last river on Tuesday. The four-day event culminates on Friday.

Ole Schemion Wins the €25,000 Super High Roller Champion
Besides the Main Event, the first ever €25,000 Super High Roller also played out today. The biggest ever buy-in poker tournament held in The Netherlands, attracted a field of 13 players, including Day 2 registrant Charlie Carrel. Ole Schemion triumphed, winning €160,875, a special MCOP plate and a giant Heineken mug.

3Charlie CarrelUnited Kingdom€64,350

The first exit of the day would also be the most brutal one. Juha Helppi got it in with ace-king of clubs against the ace-king of hearts of Ole Schemion. Schemion, who won the MCOP Main Event for €286,200 back in 2012, made a backdoor flush to send Helppi packing.

Schemion also took care off Ben Heath and Govert Metaal who both went out before the money stage of the tournament was reached. French high stakes regular Jean-Noël Thorel bubbled the event, running ten-nine into the ace-queen of Frank Williams.

Charlie Carrel, the late sign up entering Day 2, min cashed the event for €64,350 after being unable to win queen-ten against the king-nine of Schemion.

Frank Williams, a German high stakes cashgame player, finished runner-up to his countryman Schemion. In the final hand, he made the all-in move holding ace-jack but, again, Schemion had a real hand with pocket kings. No aces or any other cards that helped Williams on the flop, turn, or river, and he bowed out in 2nd place for €96,525.

Robin Ylitalo Eliminated

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Robin Ylitalo
Robin Ylitalo

We ran into EPT champion Robin Ylitalo as he was on his way to the bar. He told us how he had been eliminated from the Main Event just now.

Ylitalo called a raise with {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} and the big blind came along as well. The flop came {K-}{6-}{7-} with two diamonds and the initial raiser bet 2,100. Ylitalo called and so did the big blind.

The big blind and initial raiser checked on the off suit {6-} turn and Ylitalo bet 5,500. The big blind folded, the initial raiser called.

With the {8-Diamonds} completing the board, the initial raiser checked. Ylitalo shoved for 16,000 with his rivered flush but would soon depart as his opponent tabled {K-}{K-} for a full house.

Salter and Stephensen Eliminated

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Felix Stephensen
Felix Stephensen

Both Jack Salter and Felix Stephensen were seen having a beer at the bar, and soon spoiled the beans on what had happened.

Salter lost {A-}{K-} to {J-}{J-} to go out.

Stephensen had a bigger story: "I had top full house. Kings on {K-}{10-}{5-}{5-}, 150,000 pot" Stephensen said with a mysterious smile.

He soon told the true story of his demise. He was down to just 5,000 and lost {K-}{Q-} to {7-}{7-} to go out.

[€25,000 Super High Roller] Jean-Noël Thorel Bubbles, Ole Schemion Wins (€160.875)

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Ole Schemion
Ole Schemion

It was four-handed for a while in the €25,000 Super High Roller, but it's all done now.

Jean-Noël Thorel bubbled the event, going out with {10-Hearts}{9-Spades} against the {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} of Frank Williams. The flop came {K-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} making Thorel the heavy favorite, but the {K-Hearts} on the turn and {K-Diamonds} on the river made Williams a full house and Thorel was the last player to leave empty-handed.

Down to three, Charlie Carrel would be next with his head on the chopping block. He first clashed with Schemion in a huge pot with jack-seven up against ace-ten. He would hand the remainder of his chips to Schemion not much later, getting it all in pre flop with {Q-Hearts}{10-Clubs} up against {K-Hearts}{9-Hearts}. The board ran out {5-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Spades}{K-Clubs} and with that river king, Carrel bowed out in third place for €64,350.

Frank Williams, a cash game specialist, started out heads up with a chip disadvantage but they were still deep. Nonetheless, it wouldn't take long. Williams got it in with {A-Spades}{J-Hearts} up against the {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} of Schemion. The board ran out an uneventful {8-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{6-Spades} and Williams left in second place, worth €96,525.

Ole Schemion has won the €25,000 Super High Roller and received a cheque worth €160,875. He'll play the Main Event on Tuesday.

Bart Spijkers Leads the Main Event

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Bart Spijkers
Bart Spijkers

Bart Spijkers leads the Main Event, and not by a small margin either. He holds 165,000, about twice as big a stack as anyone else we've seen so far.

Spijkers told us he cold called a three-bet to 4,000. Holding pocket tens, the flop came a beautiful {2-}{5-}{10-}. A blank fell on the turn and his opponent checked. Spijkers bet 14,000 and his opponent went deep into the tank.

"After about "10 minutes" in the tank, he shoved all in. I thought about 1 second and called" Bart Spijkers said with a big smile.

Spijkers needed to dodge two outs as his opponent tabled {K-}{K-}. The river was a blank and Spijkers doubled.

Steven van Zadelhoff Eliminated

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
Steven van Zadelhoff

Kees Alblas, known as Kees Bussum amongst his peers, sat down just now. Known as an action player, he got straight into it calling a 1,050 raise. Steven van Zadelhoff squeezed to 5,000 and the initial raiser shoved all in, stating "Time to gamble!"

Alblas got out of the way but Van Zadelhoff called with {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}. The initial raiser showed {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds} and they were off to the races.

The board ran out {4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{4-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} and Van Zadelhoff parted ways with his 35,000-stack.

Van Zadelhoff is going to play online tonight, he'll be back on Tuesday for Day 1b to give it another try.

Quads for Van Wesemael

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante
Sander van Wesemael
Sander van Wesemael

From early position, Sander van Wesemael, who won two of the 10 tournaments last year and won the opening event this year as well, opened for 900. His neighbor Jasper Meijer called and big blind Jack Salter called as well.

The flop came {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{K-Hearts} and was checked through. The {4-Hearts} hit the turn and Salter checked again. Van Wesemael bet 1,300 and Meijer folded, Salter called.

With the {A-Spades} completing the board, Salter checked. Van Wesemael bet 3,000 and Salter called.

Van Wesemael showed {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and Salter, naturally, mucked.

Van der Ven First To Go, Boeken Profits

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Noah Boeken
Noah Boeken

We missed it, but one of our colleasgues told us the details of the first bust out of the day.

Noah Boeken, who won this event back in 2013, raised to 400 and Hans Bosman called in position. From the cutoff, Floris van der Ven, a well known Dutch poker pro specialized in cash games, squeezed to 1,500. Boeken was the only caller, Bosman folded.

Boeken check-called a bet of 1,200 on {Q-Clubs}{J-Spades}{3-Hearts} before the {7-Clubs} hit the turn. Boeken checked again and Van der Ven bet 4,000. Boeken moved all in, putting Van der Ven to the test for his 16,000 stack. Van der Ven called.

Floris van der Ven: {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}
Noah Boeken: {7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}

The river {2-Diamonds} did nothing for Van der Ven and he was the first to hit the rail here in Amsterdam. He still has the option to buy back in today, or take some rest and try again on Day 1b.

Coulier Value Bets Kings on an Ace-High Board

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Arne Coulier
Arne Coulier

Louis Salter was first to act and raised to 450. In the cutoff, Arne Coulier called. Salter fired 650 on {7-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} and Coulier called. Salter checked the {4-Hearts} on the turn and Coulier bet 1,150. Salter thought about it for a bit before he called.

The {A-Spades} on the river saw Salter check again. Coulier bet 2,675 and Salter called after some consideration.

"Kings" Coulier said confident before showing {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}. Salter mucked.

Brummelhuis and Salter talked a bit after the hand, with Coulier saying he was pretty confident he wanted a call on the river. "A raise would've been nasty, though."
