Empty Seats and Broken Tables

It's getting to be that time of day where players start disappearing. We wandered by Chau Giang's table and noticed that his seat was empty. One of the player confirmed that Giang is among the ranks of the early eliminations.

When Did Kenny Tran Get Here?

A player at Daniel Negreanu's table actually bowed to him after a recent hand. Negreanu bet a {2-Spades} {9-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} flop and was called. He check-called a bet on the {3-Clubs} turn and checked again when the river fell {Q-Hearts}. His opponent made the price of a showdown 9,000 chips.

"I only lose to a set," mused Negreanu. "Do you really have a set?" Negreanu studied his opponent a few moments longer and then threw 9,000 of his own chips into the pot. His opponent showed down a complete airball, {J-Spades} {10-Spades}. Negreanu happily turned over {A-Clubs} {4-Clubs} -- a busted ace-high flush draw -- to rake in the pot with a very "sick call".

Negreanu is up to about 55,000.

Steicke Stuck

A few tables over, an opponent made an easier call against David Steicke. Steicke was out of position for a three-handed flop of {6-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds}. He checked and then was the only player to call a bet of 1,300. Both players checked the {K-Diamonds} turn, inducing Steicke to bet 4,000 when the river came {Q-Hearts}. His opponent quickly called with two pair, {A-Hearts} {A-Spades}. That beat out Steicke's smaller two pair, {K-Hearts} {7-Hearts}, to take the pot.

Ho Doesn't Fall for the Trap

After her opponent checked to her, Maria Ho fired 2,600 on a board of {Q-Hearts}{J-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}. The player made the call and then another jack fell on the river with the {J-Clubs}. The player checked to Ho and she didn't fire. Her opponent tabled {J-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for quads.

Ho is sitting on 35,600.

Le Tank-folds

On a flop of {9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{4-Spades}, two players checked over to Nam Le. He fired a bet of 1,500 and the first player called. The next player folded.

The turn card was the {Q-Clubs} and the first player bet out 4,000. Le folded his hand after finding out how many chips his opponent had left (11,600) and a few minutes in the tank.

AmichaiKK Doubles with Some Trouble

Daniel Makowsky
Daniel Makowsky
Daniel "amichaiKK" Makowsky's table was in the middle of a heated debate when we got there. He was all in with {Q-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} against an opponent with {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} on a {J-Hearts} {J-Spades} {9-Hearts} flop. The debate was over whether the dealer had pulled in the correct number of chips before counting Makowsky's remaining stack.

Things seemed settled and she dealt the {4-Clubs} turn and {10-Spades} river. Makowsky's trip jacks were good for the double up, but again the dealer had difficulty counting the correct amount of chips out of Makowsky's opponent's stack. The floor watched and shrugged, not able to do much to help. Eventually Makowsky was satisfied, and he stacked about 44,000 as the table moved on to the next hand.
