Gold Doubles through Fischman

Chalk one up for the world's best bluffer. Jamie Gold led out on a flop of {J-?} {9-?} {7-?} and was raised all in by Scott Fischman. When Gold called, he was the player at risk of elimination. Fischman tabled {A-?} {9-?} for middle pair, but Gold was huge with pocket kings! The turn and river fell safe cards for Gold, {Q-Clubs} and {6-Clubs}, giving him the pot and the double-up. His match with Fischman continues.

Lindgren Eliminates Lederer; Poker Career Safe

Howard Lederer
Howard Lederer
Erick Lindgren put Howard Lederer all in on a {3-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} {8-Spades} flop and Lederer made the call for all of his chips holding {3-Spades} {6-Spades}; Lindgren tabled {9-Clubs} {10-Clubs} for top pair.

The turn and river filled out {2-Diamonds}, {J-Clubs} and Lindgren's single pair of nines were good enough to send The Professor packing. Lindgren will play the winner of the Johnny Chan v. Eli Elezra match.

Elezra Sends Chan Out to Sea

Eli Elezra and Johnny Chan
Eli Elezra and Johnny Chan
Eli Elezra is through to the second round. He limped his button with pocket sixes, then called an all-in raise from Johnny Chan, who showed {A-Hearts} {9-Diamonds}. Elezra had the slightest of preflop edges, which increased significantly after Chan completely missed an all-black flop, {J-Clubs} {5-Spades} {3-Spades}. The {K-Diamonds} that hit the turn was no help from Chan; the match was over with the {7-Diamonds} that fell on the river. Elezra and Chan left the set to a round of applause from the gallery; only Elezra will be back tomorrow.

Gowen's Case Dismissed

Clonie Gowen's case for champion of this tournament has come to an early end. She won't have to worry about running into any of her former Full Tilt colleagues for the rest of the tournament. With the blinds having become prohibitively large, Gowen moved all in preflop with {10-Hearts} {3-Spades} and was called by Jerry Yang's {A-Hearts} {8-Spades}. The hands remained the same after a flop of {J-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {2-Clubs}. When an ace hit the turn, Gowen was drawing dead. She is eliminated; Yang will play John "the Razor" Phan tomorrow in Round Two.

Fischman Busts Gold; Streak Stays Alive

Jamie Gold
Jamie Gold
Scott Fischman has just eliminated 2006 WSOP Main Event Champ Jamie Gold to move on to the Round of 32.

All of the money went in before the flop; Fischman's with {A-Spades} {J-Spades} and Gold's with the {Q-Hearts} {9-Hearts}.

Gold was able to spike a nine on the flop, but Fischman caught a jack on the turn to take the lead and he never looked back.

The win keeps Fischman's NBC Heads-Up cashing streak alive, though he's got to get past David Williams in the Round of 32 to make it an impressive five years straight.

Williams Gets the Best of Tran

David Williams moves on
David Williams moves on
The last of the Hearts bracket matches is over. David Williams enjoyed a four-to-one chip advantage over JC Tran when Tran open-shoved preflop with {A-Hearts} {6-Hearts}. Williams had a pair of sevens in the hole and quickly called. The flop was all small cards, {4-?} {8-?} {9-?}. When the turn paired the board nines, giving Tran a few extra outs, Williams flashed a wry smile.

"Now I see where this is going," he said. "This is some B.S." But in fact, he had nothing to worry about; the river was the {J-Clubs}, which didn't improve Tran. Williams dragged the pot and as a result had all of the chips in front of him. He will be back tomorrow to play one of only two players to cash in this event every year since its inception -- Scott Fischman.

Hearts Bracket Concludes

After 95 minutes of play, that's it for the Hearts bracket. Allen Cunningham was the first player to bid adieu, sent home by a dapper Sam Farha. He was soon joined by a bevy of his Full Tilt colleagues, including Andy Bloch, Erik Seidel and the Professor, Howard Lederer. Johnny "The Orient Express" Chan was derailed by Eli Elezra. Elezra was joined in the winner's circle by 2007 WSOP Main Event Champion Jerry Yang, and WSOP bracelet winners Scott Fischman and David Williams.

We're now on a short break. In the interim, consider who you like in tomorrow's Round Two Hearts bracket matches:

Eli Elezra v. Erick Lindgren

David Williams v. Scott Fischman

John Phan v. Jerry Yang

Sam Farha v. Peter Eastgate

Diamonds Bracket Match-Ups

The sixteen players in the Diamonds Bracket will take to the felt next, starting at approximately at 4:00 p.m. local time:

Feature Table:
Annie Duke v. Brad Garrett

Kenny Tran v. Antonio Esfandiari

Greg Raymer v. Jennifer Harman

Kenny Yeh v. Phil Laak

Vanessa Selbst v. Layne Flack

David Benyamine v. Gus Hansen

Huck Seed v. Jonathan Little

Chad Brown v. Glen Chorny

And They're Off

The sixteen Diamonds bracket players are in their seats and cards are in the air. Annie Duke and TV personality Brad Garrett are on the feature table. One last minute change to note: Layne Flack is NOT playing. His seat is occupied by David Oppenheim.

The Action So Far

Most of the outer tables are surprisingly quiet, letting Brad Garret and Annie Duke, seated at the feature table, play to the cameras and the crowd. Garrett seems to be in his element and Duke, to her credit, is making herself out to be an excellent foil.

Fairly surprising that there is no chatter between Kenny Tran and Antonio Esfandiari, and so far not a peep out of the ever-talkative Phil Laak. Laak did just run over to the rail for a quick word with an attractive woman who was not Jen Tilly. It looked like he gave her some money, presumably to get him something to eat or drink.

We're just unhappy that he sent her out of the room.
