Gao Gets Li in Longest Hand

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

If there was a record for the longest time to a play a hand of cards, this one would be close. We arrived after the hand had started, with 10-minutes on the tournament clock before the break and by the time the hand had finished and the chips been stacked it had eaten into four minutes of break time as well.

There was close to 7,000 in bets, blinds and antes in the pot and three players were in action on a flop of {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{3-Clubs}. It was Qinrong Gao sitting UTG+2 who was first to act, and he checked over to Shaoming Li, who fired for 3,000. That was enough to get Australia's Phachara Wongwichit to bow out, and the action was back on Gao, who slid in the call.

Gao checked again on the {j-Spades} turn and Li fired again, throwing out a single blue 5k chip. This is where time slowed and Gao tanked for an ice age before declaring he was all-in to send Li deep into the think tank, where he remained for close to five minutes.

Eventually, Li called and discovered the bad news, his {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} had been bested by the {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades} of Gao, who had flopped the boat. There was no king on the river and the field was reduced by one, while Gao stacked up to 70,000.

Lady Luck Helps Li

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Chao Li was almost the one saying 'chao' as the odds of him being eliminated just now were stacked against him. Lucky for him, the poker gods came to his aid.

Jin Xin opened to 1,100 and that was called in two spots before it reached Li in the big blind. He moved all-in for 13,425, and Xin re-jammed with the bigger stack, isolating Li and getting two folds from the others.

Xin: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}
Li: {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}

His hand was dominated, but Li found a four on the {9-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Spades} flop to put him in front. Xin couldn't catch up on the {5-Diamonds} turn or {8-Clubs} river, and when he paid off Li he was left with 42,800. Li is up to 29,100 now.

Field Still Growing

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Alex Lee
Alex Lee

It's shaping up to be a busy day here at the poker tables of the Venetian Hotel & Resort and the Day 1B OPC Main Event field has grown to 257 entrants, with 216 of these still in action.

Some of the more recent arrivals include Singapore's Alex Lee, who will be looking to add to the slew of poker titles already on his resume. Lee has over US$500,000 in live tournament cashes to his name, including a WPT High Roller and an Aussie Millon's side event title and will be looking to add more flags to his Hendonmob player profile.

Hong Kong's Danny Tang is also another recent arrival, fresh from his final table appearance in yesterday's OPC High Roller, and he will be hoping to go on yet another deep run in the Main Event.

More recognizable faces include China's Alvan Zheng and the USA's Benjamin Hamnett, both of whom boast over US$1-million in live tournament cashes apiece. Zheng does not appear to have got off to the best of starts and has dropped down to 19,000, while Hamnett is chugging along nicely with closer to 50,000.

They have some catching up to do if they want to catch the frontrunners Carson Wong and Jeho Lee who are both sitting on stacks of over 100k, with Lee holding a slender lead over the field at present and looks to be sitting on a stack of 115,000.

Li Up, Luo Out

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Xixiang Luo
Xixiang Luo

A pot involving almost an entire table just played out before the blinds went up, resulting in the elimination of Xixiang Luo.

It started with a 1,200 open which was then called four spots before it reached Luo on the button. He then moved all-in for 8,850, and was called in three spots this time.

The dealer spread a {2-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{7-Hearts} flop, and the original raiser jammed with the biggest stack. That got one fold, but Junjiang Li snap-called before revealing his {7-Clubs}{7-Spades} for a flopped set. Luo was drawing thin with {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts} and would need running hearts, while the original raiser had {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} and would also need running cards. The {j-Diamonds} turn and {2-Diamonds} river changed nothing, and Luo hit the rail as the pot shipped to Li.

Li's up to 66,000 now.

Liang Folds Out Lai

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

Another recent arrival to the OPC tournament arena is 'Derx' Kwok Chun Lai, who has not long taken his seat over on Carson Wong's table and is seated to his direct left. With over US$300,000 in live tournament winnings to his name, as well as multiple tournament titles the Hong Kong player is a familiar face on the Macau tournament circuit.

Lai wasted no time getting into the action, opening to 1,500 from the cutoff, with big blind Li Xin Liang the only caller. Liang checked the {6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{9-Spades} flop over to Lai, who fired out a c-bet of 3,100 and looked extremely surprised to see Liang toss out a check-raise to 6,200.

That did not deter him from making the call though, bringing both players to the {2-Hearts} turn, which was checked around. Liang bombed the {k-Diamonds} river for 14,000 and Lai looked like he wanted to ask neighboring Wong what to do, but eventually mucked and immediately started talking to Wong about the hand. Liang seemed happy enough to win without showdown and climbed up to 72,000, while Lai dropped to 27,000.

All Go For Gao

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Wenling Gao
Wenling Gao

Wenling Gao only entered this Main Event a level or so ago and she's made fast work of her starting stack, increasing it from 30,000 to 50,000. Gao finished fourth in last night's HK$100K High Roller for HK$400K, and she's picked up where she left off: raising and applying pressure every chance she gets.

A Tank Timeshare

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

Action folded to Jiarun He on the button and he opened to 1,400. Wang Piao was in the small blind, and he came in for a three-bet to 6,400. This bet sent He into the tank for at least a couple of minutes before he eventually made the call.

The flop fell {7-Spades}{k-Hearts}{4-Spades}, on which Piao made a continuation bet worth 8,200. In complete opposite fashion to his pre-flop decision, He now insta-shoved for 47,150. Now it was Piao's turn to enter the tank.

He had 20,300 behind, and after a good old think he opted to fight another day. He is up to 68,150 after that one.
