Set Over Set Sends Yu Home

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

There aren't many crueler ways to exit a tournament than flopping a middle set only to find your opponent holds top set. Unfortunately for Kuang Zhen Yu, that's a reality he's just faced.

All of his chips went into the middle on a {k-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{3-Spades} flop holding {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}, and he was called by He Yu Jiao who had {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}. The {10-Hearts} turn and {2-Spades} river were inconsequential, and Yu said his goodbyes as Jiao now stacks up 118,000.

Wei Takes Out Lin

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

The Day 2b survivors are on a 10-minute break and will be combining with the 2a players when they return. Before they headed off Qiu Han Wei sent Chang Chia Lin to the rail.

We picked up the action in a three-way pot on the turn with ~28,000 already in the middle and the community cards spread {8-Clubs}{j-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. China's Chang Chia Lin was first to act and had checked the action over to Hao Chen , and he had bet 11,000 and been re-raised by Wei to the tune of 24,000.

The action was back on Lin and she tanked for a few minutes before pulling the trigger and moving all-in for 49,000. Chen looked pained but made the fold and Wei called.

Chang Chia Lin: {8-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Qiu Han Wei: {4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}

Despite having a ton of outs Lin missed the river to hit the rail, while Wei stacked up to 182600. Players are now on a ten-minute break and will be back in action shortly.

Double for Wei

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Guo Liang Wei is keeping his OPC Main Event dream alive and has just doubled through tablemate Zhong Qiang Chen to improve his chances.

It was Chen who was the man driving the action, at least at first, opening to 5,000 from middle position before Wei shoved from the button for 27,100. Wei asked for a count and ummed and ahhed over the decision for a minute or so before making the call.

Guo Liang Wei: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Zhong Qiang Chen: {a-Spades}{7-Spades}

The {6-Hearts}{6-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop was a good one for Wei's pocket nines, though he did have a bit of a sweat on the {5-Spades} turn, which gave Chen some backdoor flush outs to go with his seven and ace outs. The {j-Clubs} river saw Wei double and Chen drop some chips.

Prize Pool Announced; Beats HKD $5-Million Guarantee

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

The numbers are in and the 513 OPC Main Event entries have smashed the HKD $5-million guarantee, generating a prize pool of HKD $7,464,200 (~US$951,400) with the top 63 places paying out and a min-cash good for HK$27,600.

Nobody will be aiming for that though, and all remaining players will have their eye on the HKD $1,451,000 (~US$185,000) top prize, which the winner will be walking away with, in addition to the trophy and title, plus bragging rights for becoming the first-ever Oriental Poker Championship Champion, which is priceless. You can see the full payouts under the 'Payouts' tab at the top of the page.

The Final Countdown

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Anson Tsang
Anson Tsang

An interesting pot just played out between Anson Tsang, Feng Jiao Wang, and Sen Mu. With a {2-Clubs}{5-Spades}{8-Spades} flop out there, Mu had led for 7,000 and Wang had called. Tsang then moved all-in for around 55,000 and with the action on Mu, he went deep into the tank. Eventually the clock was called, and Mu pondered his decision with his roughly 20,000 stack in his hands.

Finally, he slammed down a call.

Or did he? It turned out Mu was told his minute was up, and therefore his hand was dead. The table (notably Wing Kei Chan and Hung Sheng Lin) began to argue on Mu's behalf that a final ten or five second countdown should have been made by the floor staff, and therefore Mu should get an extra ten seconds to decide. A ruling was made that Mu should indeed get extra time, and he let another eight or nine seconds of his final countdown tick before making the call for the second time.

Wang now let her hand go quickly, and Mu saw that his {9-Clubs}{8-Hearts} for top pair was in bad shape against Tsang's {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}. The poker gods were looking down on Mu though and gifted him a {9-Diamonds} on the turn for two pair, which got "Ohhhhh!"s from around the table. Mu's hand held up after the {6-Diamonds} river, doubling him up to 75,000 and bringing Tsang's stack down to 24,000.

100 Fall In Opening Two Levels

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

We're now down to just 170 players remaining after an action-packed two levels saw more than 100 players bust. That means we're now 107 eliminations away from the money.

Jun Takes Out Chu

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

The field is shrinking rapidly, with Yung-Bin Chu the latest man to hit the rail. With the community cards spread {4-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{k-Hearts} Chu was all-in on the turn after raising pre-flop and finding a caller in tablemate Duan Shan Jun in the blinds.

After asking for the count (Chu was all-in for 47,600) Jun made the call and Chu discovered his fate; his {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds} had been out flopped by Jun's {4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and there was no seven on the river, meaning we lose one more, while Jun stacked up to 222,000.
