Keep Your Clothes On

Anyone else notice that it's getting hot in here?

Nelly is in the house, and he's splashing around in pots in the early going. He dragged two small pots in a row as we were standing over his table, and the platinum-selling hip-hop star is up to about 33,000 here in Level 2.

Scoreboard Update

Here's a quick look at some of the bigger stacks in the room after 75 minutes of play:

Vanessa Rousso - 58,000
John Racener - 73,000
Chat Batista - 76,000
Phil Ivey - 41,000

Rousso Crushing Souls Early On

Vanessa Rousso
Vanessa Rousso
It would be an understatement to say that Vanessa Rousso has had a good start to the day. She was able to jump up to 60,000 early on, but that's not the big story involving her in the early morning. Here's a hand that just put Rousso up to 130,000.

Rousso and two other players created a pot worth over 14,000 going to the flop. One player was in the small blind, Rousso was in the cutoff seat and the other player was on the button.

The flop came down {Q-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {2-Spades} and the small blind fired 15,000. Action fell on Rousso and she moved all of her chips in with a swift, two-handed motion. She had the other two players well covered in the hand.

"Oh Jesus," said the player on the button before he too shoved his chips in for roughly 35,000, making the all-in call. The small blind then called for all of his chips as well.

Rousso tabled her hand right away, revealing {9-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} and middle set. The button turned his head away from the table in disgust and rolled over his two kings -- {K-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}. The small blind waited for both of these hands to be turned over and then showed the {A-Spades} {A-Hearts}. Rousso went from worst to first on the flop and was in the lead with a chance to scoop a massive pot pending she held on the turn and river.

The turn brought the {8-Hearts} and added a heart draw for both the other players.

The river was the {10-Diamonds} though, not completing that flush. It kept Rousso's hand best and jolted her to 130,000 chips.

Nelly Halved

You don't have to spend too long standing near Nelly's table to catch him involved in a pot. His latest contest saw him go heads-up to a flop of {6-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {9-Diamonds}. The rapper led out with a bet of 1,000 in the form of a single yellow chip, and his opponent called.

Nelly would bet 2,000 on the turn {Q-Hearts}, and his final bet of 3,000 on the {5-Diamonds} river caused his opponent to take pause for a couple long minutes. He finally made the call, and Nelly tabled {8-Clubs} {9-Hearts} for the flopped two pair. His hand was no good, but things clearly could have gotten much worse as his opponent showed up the winning set with {6-Clubs} {6-Hearts}. Both men had flopped big, and Nelly managed to keep his losses relatively small as his stack drops to 15,500.

JohnnyBax Fills Up

We joined the hand with the first four cards out on board showing {J-Spades} {8-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {3-Clubs}. Stu Patterson checked first to act, and Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy put out a bet of 1,600. Patterson called, and the river came the {8-Hearts} to pair the board. Patterson now grabbed the betting lead and slid out 3,200 chips. Josephy thought it over for a minute or two before raising to 9,500. Patterson made the call, and Josephy tabled {3-Hearts} {3-Spades} for the full boat. It was the winner; Patterson sent his hand back to the muck and the pot goes to JohnnyBax.

Josephy - 39,000
Patterson - 23,000

Nelly Knocked Off

Nelly had been worked down to about 14,000 chips before this hand unfolded, and it would be his final hand of the tournament.

On a turned board showing {A-?} {4-?} {5-?} {K-?}, Nelly got his remaining stack into the middle with {A-?} {K-?}. Top two is good, but it's not as good as a wheel; his opponent tabled {2-?} {3-?}, and the rapper would need to fill up in order to stay alive. The river brought an unhelpful {2-?} though, and Nelly has been eliminated.

Deeb Won't Risk it All

Freddy Deeb
Freddy Deeb
In early position, Freddy Deeb opened the pot with a raise to 600. A player in late position reraised to 2,100 and Deeb called to see a flop. It came down {5-Spades} {K-Spades} {Q-Hearts}, and Deeb check-called a bet of 2,350. On the turn, the {A-Clubs} drew another check from Deeb, and he would call 3,800 this time.

Fifth street came the {6-Clubs}, and Deeb tapped the table again. His opponent put out a big bet of 12,000, enough to cover the gregarious pro. Deeb eventually returned his cards to the muck, electing to hang on to his 11,000-chip remainder for a better spot.
