Massey's in a Hugging Mood

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Aaron Massey
Aaron Massey

We got to the table with approximately 15,000 in the pot and the board showing {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}. There was a bet of 7,100 in front of Aleksei Platonov and Aaron Massey was deep in thought over what to do. Finally he decided to fold and Platonov showed him {Q-}{Q-} for a turned set of queens.

"Yes!" beamed Massey, quickly turning over his hand, {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}, as he walked over to Platonov and gave him a hug, thanking him for showing.

"Good play," responded the Russian as Massey analyzed his lay down to the rest of the table.

Engel Doubles Through Rachadel

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante

Action folded around to Bryn Kenney on the button and he cut out a raise to 1,500. Ari Engel was in the small blind and he three-bet all in for 5,575. Thiago Rachadel was in the big blind and he moved all in over the top of Engel's three-bet. Kenney folded and the hands were tabled with Engel all in and at risk.

Engel: {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}
Rachadel: {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}

Engel was in a commanding position and he stayed that way through a {9-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{10-Spades} run out. He scored the double and now has about 12,000 to his name.

"Who Cares About That Math S***?"

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Daniel Negreanu got lucky on the flop.
Daniel Negreanu got lucky on the flop.

"Goin' for the big blue ones, huh?" Daniel Negreanu asked his opponent, who was reaching into his stack.

Negreanu had checked from the small blind in a 16,000 pot against his big blind opponent, Atanas Kavrikov, who bet 9,000 on the {10-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}. Negreanu pushed all in, putting his opponent at risk for what looked to be around 20,000 more.

"Are you running that good?" Kavrikov asked, placing his stack in the middle and showing {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}.

Negreanu revealed he was indeed, as he he'd flopped a set with {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}. The board ran out clean for Negreanu with the {9-Diamonds}{4-Spades}.

"I don't like folding pairs, man," Negreanu said with a smile. "Because you can always flop trips."

A player pointed out that Negreanu may have been getting the right odds.

"Nooo," Negreanu said. "But who cares about that math s***?"

Dietrich Fast Grabs Overall Chip Lead After Day 1b of the PCA Main Event

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Dietrich Fast
Dietrich Fast

The 2015 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure resumed on Friday with Day 1b of the Main Event. A total of 587 players took to the felt and after eight levels of play, 368 of them bagged up and will join the 139 Day 1a survivors to play on Day 2. Leading the way is Dietrich Fast with 208,200

Late in the day, Fast and Curt Kohlberg collided in a pot that saw Fast nearly reach the 200K chip mark. The chips went in after the river of a board reading {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and Kohlberg showed {A-}{K-Diamonds} for a pair of aces. Fast, however, tabled pocket sixes for sixes full of tens to soar to the top of the chip counts en route to bagging up the chip lead.

Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu also bagged a solid stack of 85,400. He added a chunk of chips towards the end of the night after flopping a set with {5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} on a {10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} board. Atanas Kavrikov was unable to get away from {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades} and Negreanu held up to score the elimination. Other notables who will be returning on Day 2 include Stephen Chidwick (101,000), Pratyush Buddiga (84,300), Shawn Buchanan (82,600), Dylan Linde (79,200), Team PokerStars Pro Andre Akkari (76,400), Mike Leah (68,300), Aaron Massey (61,900) and Team PokerStars Pro Bertrand Grospellier (32,300).

The day did not go as well for many other notable players. 2012 PCA Main Event runner-up Kyle Julius got his chips in with {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts} against David Robinson's {K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and despite making a set, Julius was eliminated when the board ran out {A-Spades}{10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{J-Spades}{3-Spades}, giving Robinson an ace-high straight. Others who were sent to the rail today include MMA fighter Tito Ortiz, Darren Elias, Calvin Anderson, Carlos Mortensen, Bill Perkins, Eddy Sabat, Jason Koon and Paul Newey.

Play resumes with Day 2 at noon local time Saturday. Registration remains open until the start of play and shortly after that, we will have the prize pool and payouts to share. Until then, get caught up with the full story behind Steve O'Dwyer's Super High Roller victory, as Donnie Peters and Remko Rinkema analyze his huge score.
