Cabrera Flops Nuts, But Rivered By Karib

All the chips were in on the turn on a board of {5-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{3-Clubs} in a pot between Abel Cabrera and Karib Karib.

Karib flipped {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for a flopped two pair but Cabrera tabled {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{9-Spades}{K-Hearts} for the nut flush.

The river was the {5-Spades} giving Karib the full house and the pot.

"You flop a shitty little two-pair and it holds, but I flop the nuts and lose!" exclaimed a disgruntled Cabrera as he reached for a single rebuy.

Tran Starts Well

Trung Tran
Trung Tran
Trung Tran is another to strike gold early on after his {3-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{3-Spades} rivered the nut flush on a board of {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{K-Clubs}. Once again the victim was Tim Healy who held {8-Spades}{7-Clubs}{7-Spades}{6-Spades}.

Healy reaches for another rebuy as Tran jumps to 7,000 chips.

Triple Up For Bhasin

Roy Bhasin
Roy Bhasin
Roy Bhasin is off to a perfect start after getting a triple up on the very first hand of the tournament.

Bhasin held {6-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and made aces and nines on a board of {Q-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} to overcome Tim Healy's {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{3-Hearts} and another opponent holding {7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{8-Hearts}.

Bhasin, who collected the trophy in the $5,200 Pot Limit Omaha event at the 2008 Victorian Championships would be one of the favourites in today's field, but his early triple up is likely to dent the prize pool significantly!

Who's Here?

Some of the other notables in today's field include Trung Tran, Martin Harvey, John Dalessandri, Roy Vandersluis, Paul Taylor, Karib Karib, Peter Pratis, Tim Balaban, Michael "Sticky" Guttman and Danny Mountt.

Thirsty?

In an apparent effort to build today's prizepool, the tournament director just made the following announcement over the loudspeaker:

"The table with the most rebuys will get a free round of drinks!"

Today's Format

Today's format will see each player start with 1,500 in chips and they may rebuy whenever they are 1,500 or less in chips. Rebuys are open for the first three levels and for $100 they will receive 1,000 in tournament chips.

At the end of the rebuy period players have the option of a single or double add-on regardless of their chip stack.

We've already received word that several players are bringing plenty of rebuy chips to the table. Steve Topakas and Van Marcus told us they expected to spend most of the $3,000 they brought to the table, while Mitchell Carle was spotted puchasing chips worth twice that amount before play. We also expect the likes of Bruno Portaro, Roy Bhasin and Harris Pavlou to be amongst the rebuy action early on!

Shuffle Up and Deal!

The button will start in seat 8 as this tournament is now officially underway. At first glance it looks like we might have roughly around 15 tables in play this evening.
