Cards Are In The Air

Cards are in the air in three of the four quarter-finals.

Steve Leonard is still awaiting the result of the Clonie Gowen and Matthew Pearson match which has chip counts virtually even in the third and deciding rubber.

Players will start the quarter-finals with 10,000 in chips.

Points Scoreboard Update

Here's how the points scoreboard looks after the second round of heads-up play. It doesn't read too great for the live crew at this stage. Even if Ben Savage and Clonie Gowen take first and second place in this event, the live team is going to have a hefty deficit to make up tomorrow.

Gowen Levels Things Up

Clonie Gowen
Clonie Gowen
Our final heads-up match of this round has just been leveled up at one rubber apiece with Clonie Gowen taking the second leg of her match with Matthew Pearson.

Pearson raised the button to 700 and Gowen called to see a flop of {6-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{7-Diamonds}. Gowen led for 800 before Pearson moved all in with Gowen making the call.

Pearson: {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}
Gowen: {9-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

The turn was the {9-Hearts} and river the {5-Hearts} and Gowen makes a straight to take the second leg of their match.

Zedveron Eliminated

Elsing Out
Elsing Out
Damien "Zedveron" Elsing has been eliminated by fellow Online Team member Steve "StevoL" Leonard.

Preflop Elsing opened to 300 with Leonard moving over the top all in. Elsing made the call and the players tabled their cards.

Elsing {J-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Leonard {A-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

The flop of {4-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} put Leonard in front and he would stay there through the {6-Diamonds} turn and {6-Spades} river.

Leonard becomes the sixth online player through into the quarter finals, with just one live player qualified. There is still one game in progress with Matthew Pearson leading Clonie Gowen 1-0.

Savage Advances Over Hawker

Ben Savage advances to round three
Ben Savage advances to round three
After grinding down Mat Hawker in a series of medium pots, Ben Savage took his shot at the win holding {A-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} against Hawker's {J-Hearts}{10-Hearts} with all the chips in preflop.

The flop of {7-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{7-Clubs} was a huge flop for both players and Hawker improved further on the {10-Diamonds} turn. Hawker hit his flush on the {A-Hearts} river but Savage made a full house to take the pot and the match 2-1.

Savage is the first player from the live team to advance to round three action.

The only other hope for the live team is Clonie Gowen who is currently trailing Matthew Pearson 1-0, but has Pearson on the short stack.

Jeffreys Advances Over Karamalikis

Jonathan Karamalikis Eliminated
Jonathan Karamalikis Eliminated
Andrew Jeffreys limped the button and Jonathan Karamalikis checked his option in the big blind.

They saw a flop of {3-Spades}{K-Hearts}{Q-Spades} and Karamalikis fired out 200 with Jeffreys making the call. The turn was the {2-Diamonds} and Karamalikis checked before Jeffreys fired 1,000. Karamalikis moved all in for 1,500 and Jeffreys instantly called and tabled {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} for top set. Karamalikis saw he was drawing dead and tossed his cards into the muck before the {10-Hearts} fell on the river.

Jeffreys advances in a 2-0 result.

Scott Eliminated

Stewart Scott Eliminated

Ouch! The online young guns have made it four from four in round two to take a commanding lead in this challenge. They've ripped the heart out of the live team after eliminating their captain Stewart Scott in a devastating river blow.

The chips were in preflop with Scott's {A-Diamonds}{9-Spades} looking good for a double up against Jarred Graham's {J-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} but the red-hot Graham found a way to win when the board ran out {Q-Spades}{6-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}. Both players ended with a straight, but Graham's jack-high straight collected the chips and the match in a 2-1 victory.

We have twelve players remaining, and only Clonie Gowen and Ben Savage are left flying the flag for the live crew.

Dave Lee Eliminated; Three Live Players Remain

Dave Lee eliminated
Dave Lee eliminated
There will be at least one online vs online match-up in the final eight, with the possibility yet of all eight players being from the online team.

The latest live player to bite the dust was Dave Lee. Lee held a 1-0 advantage early in his match against Rayan Nathan, but Nathan made the comeback to win 2-1.

In the final hand of the match Lee moved all in on the {A-Spades}{2-Clubs}{10-Spades} flop over a raise from Nathan.

Nathan snap called, stating "Flush Draw" as he turned over his {9-Spades}{j-Spades}. Lee's {K-Clubs}{k-Hearts} would need to dodge those outs, but they failed to do so with a {6-Spades} hitting the turn. The {8-Diamonds} bricked the river.

Lee's elimination leaves three live players left in the Heads Up tournament.
