A New Day and a Second Chance

Welcome back to the Crown Poker Room for our continued coverage of the 2009 PokerNews Cup Main Event. Yesterday saw 171 players hit the felt with 49 surviving to reach Day 2 play on Sunday.

Not all hope is lost however for those eliminated from the battle yesterday, as today's flight doubles as a repechage or "second chance", allowing players to rebuy into today if they so choose.

We anticipate this will boost the overall number and prize pool, to provide an exciting day of poker ahead of us.

All the action kicks off at 12:10pm local time, which is a little over an hour from now. Stick with PokerNews.com for all your live updates!

Shuffle Up and Deal!

Crown Director of Tournament Operations Jonno Pittock has uttered the immortal words "Shuffle Up and Deal!"

"Registration is still open, and if you busted out yesterday, well, we'll let you try again..." said Pittock as the cards are in the air.

Who's Here?

Clonie Gowen, Andrew Demetriou, Emad Tahtouh, Karib Karib, Petar Lackovic, Ray Sukkar, Peter Aristidou, Bruno Portaro, Patrick Fletcher, Dean "Dinhjo" Nyberb, Jonathan Karamalikis, Kenneth Damm, Jai Kemp and PokerNews Reporter's Tim Duckworth and James Bernard are amongst the field today.

Late Arrivals

More and more players are still arriving and taking their seats. Some of the other players just turning up include Kent Hunter, Reza Vakili, Trung Tran, Kristian Lunardi, Martin Comer, Angela "LaLa" Connell, and Tony "Bond18" Dunst.

Sick Cooler For Kemp

Bye Bye Mr Kemp
Bye Bye Mr Kemp
Jai Kemp has become the first elimination for the day.

After six players took a {q-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} flop, Kemp led out with a bet and two players including Barry Clark called.

The turn was the {9-Clubs} and Kemp bet out 1,600. Clark raised it up to 5,200 with the other player getting out of the way. Kemp then moved his stack in and Clark snap called.

Clark {J-?}{10-?}
Kemp {A-Spades}{a-Clubs}

The river failed to pair the board and made Kemp the first player eliminated today.

Structure

Levels will be one hour in duration. There will be a ten minute break every two levels, with a one hour dinner break scheduled between levels six and seven.

We'll play nine levels today and the survivors from today will be merged with those that made it through yesterday and will play tomorrow.

Some Solid Starting Tables

A couple of interesting table lineups have formed as the late-comers have taken their seats.

Tino Lechich, Tony Dunst, Todor Kondevski, and defending champ Nali Kaselias are all at the same table, and we found Clonie Gowen and Jonathan Karamalikis chatting away seated next to each other, on the same table as Trung Tran and John Dalessandri.

Meanwhile the table next them is likely to be one of the first broken, which is unfortunate as it features Peter Aristidou, David Gorr, Jim Sachinidis, Michael Guzzardi and Sam Youssef.
