Day 4 Awaits

PokerStars Championship Prague Main Event Day 1a
PokerStars Championship Prague Main Event Day 1a

Yesterday's day of play at the PokerStars Championship Prague was dominated by the news that the European Poker Tour is coming back, and the birth of the Poker Players No Limit Hold'em Championship, a $25,000 event at the 2019 PCA with 300 seats added and $1,000,000 extra in the prize pool.

But for the players still active in the tournament, yesterday was all about making it to the money first and then making it to Day 4 after. 49 of them did both and will return to duty today on Day 4 of the last-ever PokerStars Championship event.

Leading the way is German player Paul Michaelis who brings a massive 1,270,000 (106 big binds) today. He's followed by Michal Mrakes (1,032,000, 86 big blinds) and Jason Wheeler (931,000, 76 big blinds). The shortest player coming back is John Mooney (120,000, 10 big binds).

Action gets underway at noon with blinds of 6,000 and 12,000, and an ante of 2,000. Levels will once again be 90 minutes long and 5 of them are scheduled before the bagging and tagging starts again.

Popovych Over a Million in Chips

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Serhii Popovych opened the action with a raise to 25,000 from the hijack. His neighbor, Marcin Horecki, three-bet to 79,000 and Popovych called.

Popovych check-called a bet of 65,000 on {6-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{10-Hearts} before they both checked the {Q-Clubs} on the turn. The {9-Diamonds} on the river completed the board and Popovych bet out 103,000. Horecki called by tossing in a single 5,000 chip, but soon had to add the other 98,000 as Popovych showed {9-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Horecki mucked.

Oaquim Eliminated in Rough Fashion

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Daniel Barriocanal opened for a raise and called a three-bet from Walter Oaquim, who was in the big blind. They saw a {5-Clubs}{3-Spades}{a-Spades} flop and Oaquim bet 45,000. Barriocanal made it 100,000 and Oaquim shoved for about 255,000. Barriocanal called.

Barriocanal: {k-Spades}{j-Spades}
Oaquim: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}

Oaquim had flopped top set but saw a {7-Spades} fall on the turn to bring Barriocanal his flush immediately. The river was a {2-Hearts} and the dealer moved to muck Oaquim's busted set.

"Wait," he said. "I need to take a picture."

Straight on the Board

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Valentyn Shabelnyk opened for a raise under the gun and called a three-bet to 60,000 from neighbor Diego Zeiter. He check-called another 60,000 on the {6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} flop. Both checked the {4-Clubs} and the {5-Hearts} brought a straight on board. Shabelnyk bet 130,000 and Zeiter called without hesitation.

Shabelnyk opened {j-}{j-} and Zeiter {a-}{a-} and they chopped.

Sow Takes From Kalaroutis

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

When we arrived, the flop was already out in a three-way hand. With {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{5-Hearts} on the table, big blind Kalidou Sow checked. From early position, Serhii Popovych bet 22,000 and Dimitrios Kalaroutis in the cutoff called.

Sow check-raised to 53,000 and Popovych folded, Kalaroutis called.

Sow bet 58,000 on the {A-Spades} turn and Kalaroutis called again.

With the river coming the {2-Diamonds}, Sow bet 165,000. Kalaroutis reluctantly called, but conceded as soon as was shown {9-Hearts}{10-Clubs} by Sow.

Min Bet the River

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Robert Heidorn opened under the gun plus one for 29,000. Ivan Soshnikov called from the big blind and check-called a bet of 22,000 on {Q-Hearts}{4-Spades}{2-Diamonds}.

They both checked the {K-Diamonds} on the turn before the {5-Diamonds} completed the board. Soshnikov lead out for the minimum, 16,000. Heidorn thought about it for a bit before raising to 70,000. Soshnikov folded.

Kalev, Targa Eliminated

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Petar Kalev shoved on the button for 114,000 and got called by Gabriele Lepore in the big blind.

Lepore: {a-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}
Kalev: {a-Clubs}{6-Spades}

The board ran out {k-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{k-Hearts}, so the eight kicker played to bust Kalev.

At the neighboring table, Petar Targa called off his last 187,000 on a half-pot river shove when Valentyn Shabelnyk put him to the test. Shabelnyk had a flush on a paired board, while Targa had merely paired his five with {9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}.
