Level 10 is underway and this locks up the registration for the Main Event. According to the screens, there are 162 players remaining out of a field of 280 entries. However, the official numbers are yet to be verified and the prize pool information will be released prior to the start of Day 2 at 2 p.m. local time tomorrow.
A huge hand played out just before the break that saw former frontrunner Mazyar Misaghian dust off his whole 200,000 stack to Korea’s Woohyuk Yang, who now holds a commanding lead.
According to Misaghian’s tablemate, Peter Plater, the Australian and Yang became involved in a hand right at the close of level nine that saw Yang flop top two pairs and Misaghian a straight draw.
Misaghian missed his draw and pulled the trigger as a bluff on the river and Yang made the call to win the massive pot and climb to 375,000 in chips and Misaghian bust, though he has re-entered and is sitting with a brand new 30,000 stack over on table nine.
Just before the end of level nine, Thai Loc Le, Shengyu Li and Terry Gonzaga have been eliminated.
Gonzaga's exit was a cruel one after he got his stack in after a flop of . Big stack Woohyuk Yang eventually called and flipped over while Gonzaga was ahead with .
The on the turn immediately improved Yang and the river was a blank to send Gonzaga to the rail in the penultimate hand before the break.
After a raise from early position, four players including Jun Obara on the button, Jaehyun Lim in the small blind and big stack Boon Leong Tan in the big blind called. The flop fell and the initial raiser bet 3,500. The cutoff called and Obara moved all in for what appeared to be 33,500. All opponents including Lim and Tan folded and Obara claimed the pot just before the end of the level.
With half an hour left on the clock for level nine, as much time remains for players to run up their stack or take another shot with a fresh entry. The registration for the Main Event will close at the end of the following break after this level, and 157 players currently remain out of a field of 263 entries for Day 1c.
