The 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) may have just concluded, but the PokerNews Live Updates will continue from the $600 buy-in, $500,000 GTD The Hendon Mob Mid-Major Championship will take place today at noon at Thunder Valley Casino Resort just north of Sacramento, California.

The tournament is in partnership with three-time Best Mid-Major Poker Tour, the RunGood Poker Series (RGPS), which is currently hosting their final stop of the “Checkpoint” season at Thunder Valley. That’s because RGPS has provided last year's Mid-Major Poker Player of the Year a prize package of over $2,000 in value which includes airfare, hotel, gift card, and buy-in for The Hendon Mob Mid-Major Championship. Something they will replicate for this year’s winner as well.

In 2022, Stephen Song finished atop the GPI’s Player of the Year leaderboard in the Mid-Major category with 3,543.72 points, thanks in big part to a December victory in the WPT Prime Championship. In honor of winning Mid-Major Poker Player of the Year, not to mention 2022 GPI Player of the Year, Song will be in attendance.

This tournament will consist of five starting flights, with the players who advance from each flight to combine on Sunday, July 23 for the Day 2 finale.

Flight Day 1aJuly 20th12 p.m.
Flight Day 1bJuly 21st10 a.m.

With this $600 buy-in, players will receive 30,000 in chips and will play 30-minute levels, starting at 100/200 with a 200 big blind ante. Play for Day 1 flights will continue until the field is cut down to 12.5% and those remaining players will then be "In the Money" and will bag up for their return on Day 2.

Players can re-enter this event only once per flight, so the maximum a player can enter this event will be a total of 10 times if they choose to fire each flight.

Stay tuned as the PokerNews Updates will continue to roll in as the coverage of The Hendon Mob Mid-Major Championship gets underway!

Jenco Scores Value on River

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

On a heads-up completed board of 249QK, there was around 5,000 in the pot when Charles Jenco announced a bet of 3,000 as he tossed an orange 5,000 chip into the middle.

The action was then on Danny Jon, who thought about it for a few seconds before he decided to make the call. He was then shown AQ by Jenco for a pair of queens and Jon promptly tossed his hand into the muck to award him the pot.

On a three-way turn of 9K74, big blind Mateos Sanabria checked to blank in late position, who then bet 2,500.

Ivan Bereza then made the call from the cutoff, and Sanabria thought for a bit before making the call as well, and the trio went to the river 6.

Sanabria then snap-shoved all-in for around 27,000 and blank quickly folded and the action was then to Bereza who went into the tank.

After a good 20 seconds, he shook his head and slammed his stack into the middle, putting himself at risk. Sanabria sighed and turned over 910 for a pair of nines while Bereza proudly flipped over K10 for a superior pair of kings.

"Yes! I knew it!" Bereza punched the air as he was pushed the large pot for a big double-up. Meanwhile, Sanabria was left with only 1,700 and wound up busting the very next hand.

Buchman Flopped It

Level 3 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante

On a heads-up flop of J87, there was around 4,000 in the pot when Darrell Cain in the small blind bombed it for 11,200 and action was then on Jeffrey Buchman in the cutoff.

Buchman then bombed it even further by moving all in for a total of 28,400 and Cain then went into the tank.

"I'll show you either way," Buchman told him after a while, but Cain was still on the fence.

"Alright, I'll let you have it," Cain said a few moments later and tossed in his hand.

"Flopped it," Buchman announced as he flipped over 910 for the nut straight while Cain said he folded king-nine of diamonds.
