It Only Takes One Pair to Get to Four Million

Level 29 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante

On a board reading {a-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{4-Clubs}, with about 1,500,000 in the pot already, Amin Akhlagi checked from the hijack to Jason Garofalo in the cutoff.

Garofalo thought for a moment and bet 500,000. Akhlagi thought for about a minute and eventually decided to call.

Maurice Sussem piped up and said, "Good call." Garofalo nodded his head and said, "Yeah. Good call" as he tabled {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades} for king high. Akhlagi showed {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs} for a pair of eights and raked in the pot.

The entire table talked about the hand for the next several minutes.

Level 29 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Derek Schaud
Derek Schaud

With the blinds being as big as they are, it's anyone's game. Derek Schaud saw a few flops and dwindled down to the middle of the pack.

Alan Findlay raised to 150,000 from under the gun, and Amin Akhlagi called from the hijack. Schaud was on the button and moved all in for 600,000. Findlay folded, and Akhlagi did some quick calculations before calling and saying, "I was getting three to one."

Akhlagi tabled {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}, while Schaud revealed {a-Spades}{j-Spades}.

The flop came {k-Spades}{9-Spades}{8-Hearts}, putting Akhlagi in the lead with a pair of tens, but giving Schaud a flush draw.

The turn was the {6-Hearts} and the river was the {7-Diamonds}, sending Schaud to the rail in seventh place to collect $4,554.

John McLean

Jeffrey Hobrecker called a shove by John McLean before the flop, and tabled {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}. McLean tabled {a-Spades}{9-Spades}, and the cards came down.

The flop was {k-Clubs}{10-Spades}{9-Clubs}, giving McLean a pair higher than both of Hobrecker's cards, but he wasn't out of the clear just yet as Hobrecker had a gut-shot straight draw.

The turn was the {8-Spades}, and Hobrecker made his straight. McLean had a flush draw, but the river was the {4-Clubs} and he was sent home with $3,795 for eight place.

Level 27 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Blake Napierala
Blake Napierala

Blake Napierala just lost most of his stack trying to make a play against Lee Syslvester. Jason Garofalo raised to 130,000 from middle position, and Napierala moved his remaining 130,000 in the middle on the button. Maurice Sussem was in the big blind and called also.

The two players on the side checked down the board reading {q-Spades}{j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}, and Napierala tabled pocket sevens but they were no match for Sussem's pocket eights. Garofalo tabled ace-ten and the pot went Sussem's way.

Napierala earned $3,036 for his efforts.

Lee Sylvester Doubles Through Blake Napierala

Level 27 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

Action folded around to Lee Sylvester in the small blind and he raised to 125,000. Blake Napierala was in the big blind and he moved all in. Sylvester quickly called.

"I was just trying to make a play", says Napierala as he tabled {4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}. Sylvester showed {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}.

The flop came {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{2-Clubs}, putting Napierala in the lead with a pair of deuces. The turn was the {q-Clubs}, and Sylvester secured the pot with the nut straight. The river was the insignificant {6-Clubs} and Napierala was down to just three big blinds.
