Franko Has The Beans

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
Frank Tatar
Frank Tatar

Lakeview NY's Frank "Franko" Tatar just played sheriff against a Scott Hosbach bluff to join Alex Visbisky over the 100,000-chip mark at the top of the leaderboard.

The action heated up in the hand after it checked to Chris Gras on a {2-Hearts}{j-Spades}{q-Spades} flop. Gras bet 3,500 and Tatar and Hosbach both called.

Tatar continued to play possum, checking the {3-Hearts} turn. Hosbach bet 7,200 and after Gras gave it up, Tatar called. The river came the flush-completing {4-Spades} and Tatar checked again. Hosbach fired out another 7,200 and Tatar called with top two pair. Hosbach had a missed open-ender.

Alex Visbisky
Alex Visbisky

Stop me if you heard this one before, but it appears Cheektowaga, NY poker phenom Alex Visbisky has taken hold of the chip lead headed into the break before the dinner break.

As mentioned previously, Visbisky led after the first flight in this very event last year. He did bubble the money giving away that lead to eventual winner Dan Wagner in 2016, but that's a whole other story he'd rather we didn't mention.

In this one, Visbisky has just become the first player past the 100,000-chip mark and will cruise into the break with designs on getting it up somewhere near the 434,000 he put in the bag on the first day of the Seneca Fall Poker Classic Main Event last year.

Local Hipster Gets Lucky, Grows Super-Powered Ginger Beard

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Matt Marcinkiewicz
Matt Marcinkiewicz

Dietrich Kuhlmann and Mike "The Mayor" Rellinger are gone now after running into Matt Marcinkiewicz and his massive hipster ginger beard super powers.

Kuhlmann was only halfway through his Super Big Gulp when he got it in with a flush draw against Marcinkiewicz' flopped set of aces. Kuhlmann made the flush on the river, but the same card gave Marcinkiewicz a full house. Kuhlmann took the soda home with him.

Not too long after, it folded to Marcinkiewicz in the small blind and he jammed into Rellinger's ten-big-blind stack.

Rellinger woke up with kings and called, squealing like a giddy school girl on a snow day. Marcinkiewicz had fives and made a set to send Rellinger home with something new to whine about.

Anyone in the room who wants to rub the beard for luck is welcome to do so at the break.

Guy Klass
Guy Klass

Budwey Salhab's time in the spotlight is over. He gave away his early double up to 2017 Western New York Poker Challenge Main Event winner Guy Klass moments ago.

Long story short, Salhab ran a flush draw into Klass' set and missed. Now Klass has a contending stack headed into the flight's eighth level and Salhab is starting over.

Deep Fryett

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Mike Fryett
Mike Fryett

Mike Fryett got most of the very tricky Rick Block's chips, flopping tens full against his kings.

A little later, Fryett defended his big blind against a raise with too many callers to count, going runner-runner to turn the {8-}{5-} into another boat.

After collecting another big pot with that hand, Fryett joins the leaders here in Level 7 and there's few in the room that can say they're running better.

Chris Gras
Chris Gras

After running horribly in the first and firing a second bullet today, Chris Gras now has all the chips he bought and paid for.

Details are sketchy on exactly how Gras doubled in his second effort. Mostly because he flat out refuses to give them up. Instead, he's busy doing the math on what place he'll need to finish to break even after firing six bullets.

For those doing their own math at home, that's one more reentry today and another three in the second flight Saturday. Luck be damned, Gras came ready to fire, and apparently that's what he figures he'll need before its all said and done. #Positivity

A Walk In The Park

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
Dennis Durante
Dennis Durante

Dennis Durante took two pair for a walk around the block and came home with all of Alex Rivera's chips.

Blake Napierala opened the action making it 1,000 and Durante and Rivera both called. It checked to Durante on the {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop and he bet 3,000. Only Rivera hung around.

The turn was the {10-Hearts} and Rivera led for 5,200. Durante semi-tank-called and the river came an offsuit brick. Rivera shipped it all in, and after confirming with the dealer how many yellow 5,000-denomination chips were in the stack, Durante called with the {a-Spades}{7-Spades} aces up.

Rivera showed the {k-Diamonds}{q-} to his half of the table on his way out the door and Durante joined the growing group near the top of the counts headed into the day's second break.
