Jim Pifer Dodges Everything

Level 10 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Jim Pifer started the day off strong but his stack dwindled as the tournament progressed. He was in the small blind and moved all in for around 20,000 over top of a raise from middle position. His opponent called.

Pifer tabled {5-Spades}{5-Diamonds} for a pair of fives and his opponent showed {a-Spades}{q-Spades} for a classic race.

The flop came {k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{8-Spades}, keeping Pifer in the lead but giving his opponent a flush draw along with his two over cards.

The turn was the {6-Clubs} and the river was the {8-Clubs}. Pifer was able to dodge the many outs his opponent had to secure the double up.

Paul McLean Doubles Through Mike 'The Mayor' Rellinger

Level 10 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

On a board reading {a-Spades}{j-Spades}{8-Spades}, with about 18,000 in the middle already, Paul McLean checked from under the gun.

Mike 'The Mayor' Rellinger was in the cutoff and bet 10,000. McLean wasted no time and moved his remaining 28,500 chips in the middle. Rellinger asked for a count and eventually called.

McLean: {a-Spades}{5-Spades}
Rellinger {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

McLean tabled top pair with the nut flush draw while Rellinger revealed a pair of queens.

The turn was the {6-Diamonds} and the river was the {2-Clubs}, giving McLean the double up he was looking for.

Leo Kaplan Takes the Lead

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Leo Kaplan was under the gun and raised to 2,800. A player in early position called, as did Mike Rellinger on the button and both the small and big blinds.

The flop came {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{6-Clubs} and all five players checked to the turn, which was the {8-Hearts}. Both of the blinds checked to Kaplan who bet 12,000. The player in early position called and the remaining three players all folded.

The river was the {a-Diamonds}. Kaplan thought about it for a moment and checked and his opponent checked back. Kaplan tabled {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} for two pair, aces and eights. His opponent showed {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} for two pair, eights and sevens and then mucked his cards.

Andy Spears Shoves

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Andy Spears
Andy Spears

Andy Spears, from Buffalo, New York, is in the field after registering late and is looking to book his second win of the year.

Fresh off a win in Borgata, Spears took down a side event for $94,800, topping a field of 1,857 to snag his fifth career win and third-biggest career score. His total recorded career earnings are a little over $1,100,000.

Spears was under the gun and raised to 2,500. The button and both blinds decided to come along.

The flop came {7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}. Both blinds checked and Spears looked at the board before shrugging and piling his remaining 17,100 chips in the middle. The three remaining players in the hand easily let their cards go, sending the pot to Spears.
