Curl Back to the Starting Stack

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Alan Curl opened for 600 from early position and cleared the field all the way to the player in the big blind, who opted to defend. The {a-Spades}{3-Hearts}{j-Spades} flop saw the big blind check-call a bet of 800, and then both players checked the {8-Diamonds} turn. When the {Q-Hearts} completed the board on the river, the big blind fired out 2,300 and Curl wasted little time in releasing his hand.

Current MSPT POY Sends Clinkscales to the Rail

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Mark Hodge
Mark Hodge

Rex Clinkscales paid us a visit to inform us he was just eliminated from the tournament.

According to him, his final hand saw him limp with the {k-Spades}{k-Clubs} and Mark Hodge, who currently sits atop the MSPT Season 6 Player of the Year leaderboard, raise to 550. Three other players called, and Clinkscales sprung to life with a check-raise to 2,750. Hodge pushed back with a four-bet to 7,500, the other three players folded, and Clinkscales five-bet to 13,800. Hodge opted just to call with what turned out to be the {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}, and then the two got it all in on the {8-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{2-Hearts} flop.

Clinkscales, who actually had the bigger stack by 2,000, was ahead, but the {4-Hearts} turn left him drawing dead. The meaningless {10-Diamonds} was put out on the river, and Hodge was pushed the large pot.

Not long after, Clinkscales got his short stack all in preflop holding pocket sevens but failed to hold against the {a-}{10-} of Hodge, who spiked an ace on the flop.

Clinkscales is undecided whether or not he'll fire a third bullet in the MSPT Golden Gates Main Event.

Turbo Satellite Qualifiers

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

This morning at 9 a.m., Golden Gates Casino hosted a $260 Turbo Satellite that would see 20% of the 40-player field earn a seat into the Main Event. Four hours later, the qualifier has come to an end with the following players being awarded a set into the Day 1c field:

One for the MSPT Grand Falls Champ

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

MSPT Grand Falls champ Alan Curl made a deep run on Day 1b, but ultimately fell short of bagging. He's back in action here on Day 1c and looking to punch his ticket to Day 2.

In a recent hand, Curl opened for 425 from the cutoff and the player on the button called. Once the blinds cleared out, the dealer put out the {k-Spades}{j-Spades}{k-Diamonds} flop. Curl led out for 500, the button raised to 1,100, and Curl called to see the {Q-Clubs} turn, which both players checked.

When the {7-Spades} completed the board on the river, Curl led out for 1,100 and his opponent snap-folded.

"I guess you have the king," he said. Curl said he did not have a king, but declined to show his cards.

Harris Stuck in Reverse

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

After the under-the-gun players limped, Mike Harris raised to 350. A player in middle position called, the big blind did the same, and then the limper called to make it four-way action to the {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop. Two checks saw Harris continue for 1,500, only the middle-position player called, and it was heads-up to the {2-Clubs} turn.

Harris bet again, this time 2,000, and his opponent called before both players checked the {3-Diamonds} river. Harris tabled the {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}, but it was no good as his opponent held a better kicker with the {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}.

Aces vs. Kings vs. Queens

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

The ever-active William Black limped and watched a player in middle position raise to 800. Another player three-bet from the hijack, and action folded back to Black, who shoved all in for roughly 7,000. Both his opponents called, and then both checked the {6-Spades}{8-Spades}{10-Diamonds} flop.

When the {3-Diamonds} appeared on the turn, the middle-position player check-called a bet of 5,000 from the hijack, and then check-folded to one of 13,000 on the {4-Diamonds} river, but not before showing the {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}. The hijack then tabled the {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}, and an excited Black clapped his hands together before showing the {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} for the triple up.

Nguyen Finishes Out Level 1 Strong

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Tyler Corbett and Cuong Van Nguyen butted heads on the first hand of the day, so it was only fitting they'd clash once more at the tail end of Level 1.

It happened when Corbett limped from the hijack and then called when Nguyen raised to 350 from the small blind. The {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} flop saw Nguyen bet 600, Corbett call, and the {2-Hearts} appear on the turn. Nguyen bet 1,200, Corbett called, and the {3-Hearts} completed the board on the river.

Nguyen slowed down with a check, and Corbett bet 3,500. Nguyen snap-called and Corbett sheepishly showed the {9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}, which prompted Nguyen to table the {10-Hearts}{10-Spades} for the win.

Johnson Flushes Away Some Chips

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Rodger Johnson opened for 225 from middle position and received a call from the player to his left. The player on the button came along, both blinds folded, and the flop came down {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. Johnson continued for 500, only the player to his left called, and it was heads-up action to the {9-Diamonds} turn.

Johnson slowed down with a check, but still called when his opponent bet 1,100. Both players then checked the {10-Diamonds} river, which put four diamonds on the board. Johnson's opponent showed the {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades} for a flush, and it was good as Johnson took one last look at his cards and sent them to the muck.

Despite losing that pot, Johnson is off to a strong start here on Day 1c.
