Full Tilt Poker Qualifiers Collide

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Ryan Straub, who qualified for this event on Full Tilt Poker, opened for 6,000 from early position and received a call from Bulgaria's Yassen Jotev on the button. After the small blind folded, FTP qualifier Edward O'Brien opted to shove for 15,200 from the big. Straub made the call and Jotev got out of the way.

Straub: {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
O'Brien: {q-Hearts}{j-Spades}

O'Brien needed a little luck and found some on the {q-Spades}{10-Spades}{k-Clubs} flop. He hit a pair of queens with an open-ended straight draw and was a huge favorite to double. That quickly changed when the dealer burned and turned the {J-Diamonds}. Straub hit Broadway and suddenly O'Brien needed either an ace to chop or a queen or jack to make a full house. The dealer burned one last time and put out the {7-Clubs}, the last card O'Brien would see here in the UKIPT Galway Main Event.

An Orbit with Chip Leader Alan Gold

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

How do you wield the big stack in the early levels of Day 2 in a tournament? Do you pressure the short stacks with relentless raises, or do you bide your time, pick your spots and preserve your hard earned stack? We spent an orbit watching chip leader Alan Gold to find out.

Hand#1 (Big blind) A raise from mid-position to 6,500, folded round to Gold in the big blind who checks his cards and folds.

Hand#2 (Small blind) Folded round to Gold in the small blind, he raised to 5,000. The big blind folded. Gold sighed and turned his cards up. {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}

Hand#3 (Button) Facing an all-in from late position, Gold and the blinds fold.

Hand#4 (Cut-off) Gold opens for 4,100. Cahal Heapes in the big blind counts his chips and raises to 13,000. Gold folds.

Hand#5 (Hi-Jack) No action when it gets to Gold, who folds.

Hand#6 (Lo-Jack) Gold opens for 4,100. Folded around to Ruairi Park in the big blind who moved all-in. Gold calls and shows {A-Hearts}{k-Hearts} against Park’s {K-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}. The board ran out {5-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} to knock Park out.

Hand#7 (Mid-Position) Folds.

Hand#8 (UTG+1) Gold folds to an raise from UnderThe Gun

Hand#9 (UTG) Folds.

So there you have a small sample. Nothing too crazy, going with his premium hands when he gets them, folding to resistance when he does. Gold looks calm and collected, settled in for the long day of poker ahead.

Croatian FTP Ambassador Eliminated in Brutal Hand

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Hana Soljan
Hana Soljan

Hana Soljan may be a Full Tilt Poker Ambassador for Croatia, but she made her way to Galway to take part in this prestigious event. Unfortunately for her, a brutal river just put an end to her run.

It happened when Soljan shoved under the gun for around 50,000, which was 25 BBs. The UK's Nathan Gallagher ended up making the call and the rest of the field got out of the way.

Gallagher: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Soljan: {a-}{a-}

Soljan had the granddaddy of all hands and was in a prime spot to double to 100K. The {7-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{q-Hearts} flop was safe enough, as was the {J-Diamonds} turn. All Soljan needed to do was dodge a king on the river to stay alive, but as you already know the river was brutal.

That's because the {K-Spades} spiked to send a clearly disappointed Soljan to the rail while the rest of the table collectively shook their heads in disbelief.
