[QueenRules Ladies Event] Ann-Roos Callens Wins!

Level 12 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Ann-Roos Callens
Ann-Roos Callens

Late last night, Ann-Roos Callens became the winner of the special QueenRules Ladies Event! Callens defeated Dehlia de Jong heads-up to claim the Unibet QueenRules Ladies Event trophy.

Today, Callens came back to collect said trophy and shoot her winner's photo. We caught up with Callens after the ceremony, who was sporting a big smile.

"It went smooth, real smooth. My good hands remained ahead," she said about the tournament where she held a big stack throughout most of it.

"It took a bit of adjusting to the QueenRules," she mentioned about the special ruleset that has queen outranking the king. "There was one hand where I had pocket queens and another player had ace-king. The flop was king-seven-three, but my hand was still best. That takes time to adjust to."

"I'm part of the Ladies at Unibet Poker facebook group and this is my 4th of 5th Unibet Open. It's nice that it's a smaller event, you recognize people. It's fun!" Callens said with a big smile.

For runner-up De Jong, it was her third second-place at a Unibet Open Ladies Event, making her the proverbial bridesmaid again. Behind Callens and De Jong, Unibet ambassador and host Daiva Byrne claimed the bronze medal. The "Baltic Blonde" was delighted after the event.

"It was a very successful event with 29 runners. With players from 10 different countries, it was a truly international game with a great fun atmosphere, with specially made QueenRules cupcakes and free-flowing prosecco for the participants. The field included some women playing live tournament poker for the very first time, and two of them made it to the final table with one cashing," Byrne smiled.

"Everyone enjoyed the QueenRules concept and, fittingly, Ann won the tournament with a Queen in for €890. We can't wait for the next ladies event in Bucharest, which will be even bigger and just as much fun!"

The Unibet Poker QueenRules Ladies Event attracted a total of 28 runners, with one player reentering to create the total field of 29. Ann-Roos callens won the event for €890, Dehlia de Jong finished runner-up for €500 and Daiva Byrne was third for €380. There were also prices for Unibet Esporter Lisa "STPeach Vannatta and Monika Zukowicz.

Eszter Fabian Accidentally Eliminated

Level 13 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Eszter Fabian
Eszter Fabian

From under the gun, Eszter Fabian shoved her last 29,000 in the middle. It got folded to Anton Haggblom in the small blind, who, unaware of Fabian's shove, raised to three times the big blind. Once realizing there was already an all-in, Haggblom put in the extra chips to match the 29,000.

Jamie Munro gave it some thought in the big blind, given the situation, but decided to give up his hand.

Eszter Fabian: {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}
Anton Haggblom: {10-Spades}{4-Spades}

"I didn't see the raise," Haggblom apologised in regards to his optional holding. The hand was still drawing very live, though, and the dealer dealt a {10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop to give Haggblom the lead. The Finn sealed it with the {4-Hearts} on the turn, rendering the {K-Hearts} river moot. Fabian kept her composure as she made her way to the exit 13 places before the money.

"That's how you win tournaments," stated Haggblom.

The turn brought another {10-Clubs} and Meysman bet 30,000, which Sinclair called. The river was the {3-Spades} and Meysman checked. Sinclair cut out a bet of 49,000 and the Belgian called within ten seconds.

Sinclair tabled {A-Spades}{10-Spades} for trip tens and Meysman mucked his hand. The Brit now wields one of the largest stacks in the room.

A sad Kevin "Papaplatte" Teller made his way off the feature table after nearly missing out on the money. Jan Eckert raised to 10,000 from the cutoff and Teller three-bet all in for 74,000 on the button. Mats Karlsson tank-folded pocket nines in the small blind but Eckert called directly.

Kevin "Papaplatte" Teller: {5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}
Jan Eckert: {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}

The {6-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} flop was devastating for was all in with pocket fives against pocket kings and after the {Q-Clubs} his Main Event run was over in 42nd place, making the {6-Spades} river a formality.

George McDonald Bubbles the Unibet Open Malta Main Event

Level 15 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
George McDonald
George McDonald

At the feature table, George McDonald was all in preflop for 120,000 after Daniel Jacobsen had opened. Jacobson confirmed how much McDonald played before calling.

George McDonald: {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs}
Daniel Jacobsen: {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}

The {2-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{8-Clubs} flop was safe for McDonald, but all that changed with the {A-Hearts} on the turn. The {5-Clubs} on the river wasn't one of the remaining jacks and McDonald became the final player to bow out. He didn't leave empty-handed, as Unibet Open's Kasia had a consolation prize in the form of bubbles for the Scot.

Erik Nordahl raised to 18,000, Jenny Israel three-bet to 55,000 and Nordahl called. On the {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{2-Hearts} flop, Nordahl retook the betting lead and came out with a bet of 45,000. Israel called in position.

The turn was the {9-Spades} and Nordahl shoved all in. Israel had 125,000 and took the better part of three minutes before flicking in a calling chip.

Jenny Israel: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}
Erik Nordahl: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}

After folding pocket queens earlier, this time Israel went all the way with it and was in tremendous shape to double up. There was a brutal surprise waiting for her, though, as the dealer burned and turned the {10-Hearts} to give Nordahl a cruel winner.

Wide-eyed, Israel stared at the river while the "ooohs" echoed across the tournament room. She had to depart from the tournament in 23rd place and received €2,690.
