Mortensen and Laliberte Brawl Again

Paul Lee and Kirk Morrison are sitting on the sidelines as they watch Guy Laliberte and Carlos Mortensen get involved in another pot. The latest fracas seemed to be the biggest thus far. Over 2.8 million went into the pot on the flop. When Laliberte moved all in on the turn, there was close to 4M in there. Mortensen went into the tank for close to five minutes before he folded. Mortensen lost the chiplead on that hand.

Hands #49-50

Hand #49 - Carlos Mortensen has the button in seat 3, he raises to 600,000, Morrison reraises from the small blind to 3.6 million, and Mortensen folds. Morrison takes the pot.

Hand #50 - Paul Lee has the button in seat 5, Mortensen raises under the gun to 550,000, Lee reraises to 1.7 million, and Mortensen folds. Lee takes the pot.

Hand #51 - Mortensen Vs. Morrison

Hand #51 - Kirk Morrison has the button in seat 1, he limps for 200,000, Mortensen raises to 700,000 from the big blind, and Morrison calls. The flop comes {10-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}, Mortensen bets 1 million, and Morrison quickly calls. The turn card is the {K-Diamonds}, and Mortensen thinks for about a minute before moving all in for about 5.8 million. Now it's Morrison's time to think. Hand #52 - Kirk Morrison Doubles Through Carlos Mortensen

Kirk Morrison

Hand #52 - Guy Laliberte has the button in seat 2, Morrison raises under the gun to 700,000, Mortensen reraises from the small blind to 2.7 million, and Morrison thinks for about two minutes before calling. There is already 5.68 million in the pot before the flop.

The flop comes {Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}, and Mortensen immediately moves all in for 6.61 million. Morrison has 5.46 million, so this decision is for his tournament life. After two minutes, he calls.

Mortensen shows {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} for top pair, top kicker, but Morrison leads with {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} -- a set of jacks. Mortensen needs something runner-runner to win the hand.

The turn card is the {A-Clubs}, giving Mortensen two pair and four outs to eliminate Morrison.

The river card is the {9-Spades}, and Morrison's set holds up to win the pot.

Kirk Morrison takes the lead with over 16 million in chips. Carlos Mortensen is knocked down to just 1.15 million in chips.

Level 2 Recap

The second level of the final table included our second elimination of the evening when Tim Phan went out on Hand #30. He ran into Kirk Morrison's pocket Aces. Paul Lee got frustrated as he lost the chiplead to an aggressive Carlos Mortensen who shifted into high gear. Most of the action involved Guy Laliberte and Carlos Mortensen. The two players were invovled in several hands, with Laliberte getting the best of El Matador in a 4M pot.

During the last few minmutes of the round, Kirk Morrison and Mortensen were invovled in two juicy pots. Mortensen snatched away 1.7M of Morrison's stack on the first hand.

On the second, Morrison called a 2.7M bet from Mortensen pre-flop and flopped a set of Jacks. Morrison crippled Mortensen on that hand, and he's down to a little over 1M. That hand pushed Morrison into a monster lead with over 16M. He has almost 50% of the chips in play.
